The British Hotel in North Adelaide is renowned for its tantalising cuisine, friendly service and great atmosphere. The British opened its doors to the public back in 1838 and now holds one of the oldest hotel licences in South Australia. Things were a little different back then, but the old nostalgia and charm of the British remains today. Situated amongst the leafy streets of North Adelaide, the British Hotel offers a wide variety of culinary services, ranging from silver-service dinners in our private function rooms, to tasty snacks at one of the bars. The British Hotel also boasts a fine selection of wines and beers to cater for every thirst. Whether it be for a function, casual dinner or just a couple of drinks, the British Hotel is the ideal venue.

This was the first time I have been to the British Hotel and I will definitely be back for more. It was a Sunday evening and the courtyard restaurant was almost full, so I would recommend reserving a table in the future. Everybody at our table enjoyed their meal ( I would recommend the steaks, they are good quality and cooked well, a special mention must go to the duck pie - Brilliant - The menu was diverse enough to keep all 6 people at our table satisfied for meal choice).

The courtyard restaurant was a unique and enjoyable experience, you place your order at the little kitchen window - the waitress had to stand on her tippy toes to take our order - It was a busy night so there was slight wait. The service was excellent, the waitresses were friendly and more importantly when all our meals/glassware were finished with they were promptly removed from our table.

After finishing our meals we retired to the bar , the wine list here is fantastic, one of the best I have seen in Adelaide - The two young men behind the bar were friendly and very professional - This is the type of bar I could see as becoming my local.

I look forward to returning to the British Hotel, I really hope my next experience will be just as enjoyable,   (February, 2010)

Over priced, over cooked, and soup too salty. I'm not surprised that the gallery doesn't show any photos of where you need to line up to order or the kitchen. Full marks to the staff for operating in such a small and extremely busy area. And the idea of paying over inflated prices on a piece of steak that you can cook yourself or pay an extra $2 to have it cooked is silly - could better utilise that space for kitchen staff.   (Mrs D - See my reviews (6) - June, 2009)

For some reason I always feel gypped when I come here. Steak eaters are safe as the steaks are good quality and cooked well for the price paid. I tried the lamb this time and the lamb portion was tiny (despite being a backstrap rather than a fillet) and overcooked. Service was excellent though as we didn't have a booking on a busy Friday night and a table was quickly re-set for us. Good wine list too.   (Redchilli - See my reviews (103) - June, 2008)

The steak was excellent. Nobody comes to the table to take orders as everybody has to line up for their orders. Very relaxing environment for a British dinner with a partner.   (Alwin - See my reviews (2) - February, 2008)

This is just a pub. Be prepared to take a seat and wait quite some time before you realise that there is no table service and you must place an order at the window like a school canteen. The food was Ok and prices over-rated. Also, no ETPOS so take cash with you. My suggestion, walk a little further around the corner and spend your $25-30 on a proper meal at the lion.   (fussy - See my reviews (33) - February, 2008)

Very good. I had the grilled kanagroo - yummy! and my boyfriend had the beef vindioo which he thought was very nice - beef melting in the mouth!   (January, 2008)
