A Taste of Jamaica is Adelaide’s only Jamaican Restaurant! It is also the only West Indian and the only authentic Caribbean one as well. The idea of a Jamaican restaurant in Adelaide came into existence in February 2005. At the time Danielle Mangelsdorf was running a daytime cafe, The Tea House at Goodwood. She specialized in providing a place for people to eat who had food allergies. We decided to start operating at night by selling traditional Jamaican meals. The ‘Jamaican Nights’ as they were initially called, were an instant hit, despite us starting with a minimal budget and no formal marketing or proper signage. We still have our original hand-made appliquéd ‘Jamaican Food’, which we now use as a whimsical touch for food stalls we do at Markets and Festivals.

As a source of the world's oldest and most fascinating culture, Tandanya represents a great opportunity for us. We believe this is a perfect chance to bring more people to the venue. Some of our featured dishes are Spicy Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Curried Goat, Oxtail with Lima Beans, Tamarind & Garlic Pork, Curried Prawns, and Jamaican Rice & Beans cooked in coconut milk. We also make special drinks and desserts including Reggae Punch, Mambo Twist, and famous Jamaican Rum Milkshake. Our mouth-watering Sweet Potato Pudding will cap off a perfect Jamaican evening! We will sell Red Stripe Beer, the official beer of the Caribbean, and offer Gluten Free Beers as well. Local favourite, Coopers, is also featured on our menu.

Our meals far exceeded our expectations. I sometimes get a bit worried I will be dissappointed when I hear so many good things about a place, but it was even better than I expected. Two thumbs up! Adelaide needs a place like this.   (adelaideeater - June, 2007)

I had the Tamarind and Garlic Pork. It was a very interesting flavour. The meal was very big and there were lots of chunky pieces of meat on the plate, which can sometimes be lacking when you order a stew or curry type of meal. My husband had the jerk chicken and that was mind blowing! It was so delicious.   (rachel111 - May, 2007)

All food on the menu is gluten free, but you wouldn't know by the taste of it! Excellent restaurant, especially for people with special dietary requirements. All meals are gluten free and nut free and there are vegetarian options available too. Great food but meals are quite spicy, so make sure you let the staff know if you prefer your food less spicy. If you like your food extra spicy, make sure you ask for the extra spice on the side. Decent sized meals, so no need for an entree. Entrees on the menu are really for those wanting a smaller main meal. Very casual, laid-back atmosphere and service gives a Jamaican feel to the dining experience. Outside dining is perfect for a warm summer's night. Staff is friendly and very helpful.   (January, 2007)
