The African Mesob Café Restaurant offers a unique dining experience. A Mesob is a hand woven dome shaped basket, around which Ethiopians sit to share a meal. In both Greek and Italian languages the word “meso/mesos” means in the “middle”. Our entrance is on the Plateia Hellas, in the middle of multicultural Northbridge and we are proud to share the cultures of the African continent with our customers.

The African Mesob has a range of African dishes from West, North, Central and East Africa. It is impossible to do justice to all 57 African countries but we hope that our menu gives our customers a sample of exotic African cuisine. Our menu will evolve over time as we explore the amazing diversity of African cuisine.

Very friendly, relaxed atmosphere, food excellent. The wine should be kept in a cool place (especially during summer).

Full explanation of menu items from the very helpful and friendly staff and owners, they were so warm and welcoming. The owner was so enthusiastic about her knowledge of food from the various regions of Africa. Live traditional music played all night and we were encouraged to have a beat of the drums. Food was so tasty and the portions were of a good size. Our table of guests included a pregnant and a vegetarian, who had plenty of choice from the menu. I will be going again soon!   (Nicolle - January, 2007)
