In Antiquity, when king and emirs graced the Arabian nights, supper was much more than just an evening meal—it was an occasion. It was a time for friends and loved ones to come together, to share laughter and love, and to dine on exquisite dishes crafted by the finest cooks in the land. Sumptuous food, flowing wine, great company and lively conversation—all are embraced by the phrase 'Al Samar'. Today, we continue this grand tradition and invite you to share with us the Al Samar experience.

Food was great except that the Fattoush salad is no longer available with mains - one of the main reasons I eat at Al Samar. Apart from that disappointment, all was good except that we were placed out the back near the kitchen, which was quieter (good) but a bit removed from the rest of the diners.   (See my reviews (3) - June, 2008)

Dined at Al Samar on a Saturday night and were welcomed by fantastic staff and belly dancers for entertainment. We both had the Signature Tasting Plate and was supurb. All lebanese flavours on the one plate. What a treat. The Trio of Traditional Dips was also great with Smooth and Smokey flavours. All round a job well done for the new owners. we shall be back soon.......   (sam - June, 2008)

Everything was very good about from something that looked suspiciously like mould on the cake she ordered, she was given another and no charged.   (May, 2008)

Well you can count yourself 'lucky'. It was suggested to us by the waiter that this Tray of food was a large enough meal to share.... And to add, I was one of 8 people... I was not the only one at the table that was not pleased. 6 of the 8 were NOT happy. That is why I was prompted to write a review in the first place. I am no Killjoy, thank you, I just gave an honest review. Still concerned diner, Carol.   (Poor restaurant experience - See my reviews (2) - April, 2008)

i had a great experience at the restaurant, i cant believe that a person such as this carol can complain, if u wanted to have a meal that i assume is designed for one person why share it? this place has a great atmosphere and was a great experience for my group, we will be back and we dont want to share it with killjoys like yourself.   (fab - April, 2008)

Bring a big appetite your critic says? Re: value for money.

I was part of a group of 8 ladies last night dining, for me and several of my family, it the first time at a Lebanese restaurant. I found it terribly expensive. Most of us were not at all impressed with the service or the food. We waited about 1.5 hrs. after ordering for our meal. It wasn't as if they were busy as there were only another 5 other people there and I can understand why the poor attendance. My sister and I found our food overcooked, dry and burnt and from a shared $28.50 tray, it had just 3 skewers with 3 small pieces of meat on them. Not 4 so we could have 2 each but 3? We had to share a cube of meat. We couldn't even eat one of the skewers because the flavour was so awful. So with a tiny dip and spoonful of cream and 2 skewers with 3 cubes of mean it was $28.50? Anyway, you get my point here at having to share a tiny cube of meat? I was not the only one in our dining party disappointed. I will not be back. I went home hungry and had toast..Very disappointed! ...Pick up your act Al Samar! Concerned Diner, Carol   (Poor restaurant experience - See my reviews (2) - April, 2008)

A pleasant dining experience. While the meal servings were moderate, the taste was sensational!   (April, 2008)

Overall 9.3 - Food 9, Ambience 9, Value 9, Service 10

As far as I am concerned! Service is the most important thing! Even though I though the food wasn't as good as it should be I will be coming here again and again over the restaurant who had wonderful food but poor service!   (February, 2008)

"This family eatery offers authentic Lebanese fare..."

Kylie Lang, Brisbane News and Dining Out Guide 2007 - August 2007
"Bring a big appetite so you can appreciate all the flavours of chef Sodith Aoude's Middle Eastern menu. She brings out the best in local produce in dishes like the seayadiye, a fillet of snapper on a bed of brown rice, cashew, pistachio and pine nuts, while salads like tabouli and fatouch confirm that everything is made fresh each day. The wine list is small but the service is big hearted and friendly. The patio is ideal for warm evenings, or you can sit inside and admire the barman's skill with a cocktail shaker."
