WHAT A GEM!! Been here years and years ago - found out Anchors changed ownership 4 years ago and its bloody fantastic now!!! THE BEST IN NEWCASTLE - dont go elsewhere in Newcastle, youll just be disapointed. Anchors has it all. Great staff, lovely owners and awesome seafood. We dined at Anchors recently, and loved our experience. We had a group of 10, and we were very impressed. Whilst this restaurant is devoid of a pretty view ie: water etc, the service and quality of the seafood surely makes up for that loss! Having dined at another well known Newcastle Seafood Restaurant, on the harbour and walked away terribly disappointed - it seemed we were just paying for the view, and the food and service was rather shabby to say the least. Anchors Restaurant offer quality food, along with great staff who are extrremely attentive. Had read great reviews on the awesome desserts, unfortunately we were all too full to try the desserts, plus we had a birthday cake. However, we will definitely be back, and will try the famous desserts! The garlic bread was another highlight, it can be hard to get a decent garlic bread, but Anchors garlic bread was gorgeous. Keep up the fabulous work Anchors, we think your restaurant is fantastic!!   (See my reviews (2) - April, 2011)

We always have a great time at Anchors. Service is always good and food is outstanding here. Anchors is always consistently good and as I am a coeliac they always cater for me and my family without a fuss. The kids love the puzzles and games and the staff are never bothered by the kids. My recommendation is to always book as they always seem to be busy and rightly so.

We went with my husband and daughter for dinner before a concert from the recommendations from online reviews. The restaraunt had a great family atmosphere with my daughter being given colouring in pencils and an activity sheet to do which was great. We unfortunately waited over an hour for our meals which was pressing time before the concert. I ordered the Seafood Paella (which I have ordered many many times from other restaraunts as it is my favourite meal) which arrived looking like glug and a small pool of oil sitting on top and hardly any seafood in site apart from the crab leg sitting in the middle of the dish. I picked some rissotto up on my fork and along came with it was a massive amount of stringy cheese. I am lactose intolerant and I ran my fork through the rissotto it was absolutely covered in cheese. I had another look at the menu and it had no mention of cheese whatsoever. My husband was kind enough to swap his meal with me as we didn't have enough time to send the dish back and order another but he could only finish half of it as the amount of cheese made him sick as well and I ended up giving him half of my seafood because his had hardly any seafood in it. My husband initially grabbed the hotncold seafood platter for one but they said the crab wasn't cooked properly so the chef would substitute it for prawns. There was plently of prwans but only 1 oyster 2 mussels and half the calamari was too chewy to eat. My daughters meal was fine but she initially ordered the chicken strips and they advised they were out of it so she got the chicken nuggets instead. When we went to pay the waitress said how was your meal my husban answered "it was fine" which he always says to be polite but I was so dissapointed with the meal that I for once (I normally never do) said everything that I had mentioned aboved. The waitress looked at the menu and said yes it doesn't mention cheese but normally if people have an allergy they let us know. I said yes thats true but being lactose intolerant I normally stay away from cheesy sauces and I have NEVER ever had any type of paella which is covered in cheese let alone a seafood paella. She replied with well that is the chefs recipe, we are sorry about it but that will be $85.00 thanks. I walked out feeling extremely dissapointed with myself for even going there for dinner but now I know better and will never recommend it to anybody and unfortunately it took $85 to figure that out.   (familyfood - March, 2011)

Had lunch on Sunday had a fantastic seafood platter for 2 It was huge!! Very fresh and tasty Mussels were plump,sweet and juicy. Staff very friendly and the restaurant was very clean, light and airy, Will recommend this as a dining experience to family and friends   (Yesplease - April, 2009)
