Chef

Jeff Piper - More recently I have spent time working at the Village Chef and Artespresso before opening Anise in 2001. Here I am able to produce the type of food matched with wine that I am passionate about which includes dishes inspired by the French countryside with a fair Asian influence particularly Thai.

I had a great night, the food and service was fantastic. the wine list is extensive and has a great local page. The staff are friendly and approachable and their knowledge of the food is wine great.   (Pasquale - January, 2008)

A very "pleasant" restaurant.I was a little disappointed that given it's reputation, I was not more impressed. I liken it to of a very good 5 start International Hotel Restaurant - something for everyone, but nothing to really call memorable. Good quality materials, good chef, good napiery and glassware, very good service but just not adventurous.   (tezact - See my reviews (8) - September, 2007)

“Anise seems to have hit the mark. The smart room, kind lighting and sound levels and amicable staff quickly ease the day’s tensions...”

Anthea Loucas, Gourmet Traveller 2008 Australian Restaurant Guide - November 2007
"This place is buzzy. A little loud, but definitely buzzy. And when the air outside turns crisp, it's nice to know that a Canberra restaurant can turn it up a notch with such soul-warming food. The menu has an exciting balance of dishes, and for the most part the flavours work. The extensive wine list has winning offerings from Australia and around the globe."

Anthea Loucas, Gourmet Traveller 2007 Australian Restaurant Guide - October 2006
"Nice wine list... Lots of interest, lots to like, lots by the glass and a good representation of Canberra's regional wines. Cotechino with white bean ragu is just the sort of thing you want to see on a chilly Canberran evening, while the rabbit and prune terrine has trans-seasonal appeal. The kitchen...know its souffles, and this, along with the generally excellent service, keeps Anise in our good graces."
