The bug is really aesthetic and has character. It is definitely perfect for an intimate occasion. The menu was small but sweet, with steak the main option with a few different dishes such as rabbit and quail and kangaroo. The seafood ravioli was to die for. The bugs were would have been fantastic but they were just way to salty. The meat was cooked right per order. The deserts were v tasty. Over all a really nice experience. Will go back again. We had heard good things about this place and tried it out with the entertainment book. Even without the discount, the food and specials offered would make us go back again. The chef was willing to change our dishes slightly which we appreciated. Steak great. We had the tasting plate for desert which was HUGE but very good. The service was excellent and friendly. Good bottleshop across the road which helps. (October, 2008)

We dined at the bug for the first time since it has changed into a steakhouse, and were a little sceptical, but we had no need to be, the food and service were both exceptional, more choice on the menu, cheaper, and huge portions. The wines are so much more affordable, and just as high quality. This is no ordinary steakhouse, it is a great steakhouse. There Signature dish special at $49.95 is exceptional value, and sensational food.
We look forward to many more great nights at this great little restaurant (Andrew - September, 2008)

Good food, but it was empty on a Thursday. You cannot get normal bread, which you'd expect if you order mussels. (September, 2008)

The food was very good, very fresh and tasty. The seafood soup was the best i've had, definitely recommend it for any seafood fan. Very quiet and cosy setup. While dim lights added to the atmosphere could do with a little more lighting. Service was prompt and polite. Will visit again soon! (August, 2008)

I have very mixed feelings about my visit to Balmain Bug.
It was very cold inside and I had my coat on all the time during the dinner.
Food was good although there wasn't much variety to choose from. Waiter forgot about our iced wine order with the dessert therefore we had a dessert and got to coffee without tasting the wine.
At the end when it came to paying I used my credit card and this got lost on the way from the counter to our table. I tell you it wasn't fun to see that the restaurant staff have no idea what happened to the card and in panick tried to hand to me card belonging to another patron.
Finally the card was found on the floor under the entrance door by my fiance. It occured that the waiter dropped the card on his way to our table.
Yes, I think that the food was good but after my experience I don't think that I am going to visit this restaurant again. (July, 2008)
