The Bengal Tiger situated at the corner of City Road and Montague Street in South Melbourne is the old favourite, for Indian food lovers in the area.
Once a popular pub - The Nelson Hotel, was converted to a restaurant and has housed The Bengal Tiger for over 28 years.
Opened in October, 1982 it is the oldest Indian restaurant in the area.
The Bengal Tiger has tandoors (clay ovens) in which are cooked succulent meats - lamb, chicken, prawns, fish and pork spare ribs, and also Naans and Parathas (Indian bread - cooked against the wall of the oven with various stuffing available - such as spiced cottage cheese, minced lamb, potatoes, onions, mint or garlic.)
Reasonable wait, but well worth it, amazing Indian, best I have found in Melbourne.
