The restaurant is situated on the Northern end of Captain Cook Bridge where it’s known as St. Kilda’s Point. We have a bar for which customers can enjoy a cocktail before seating to their table. Our cellar contains a good selection of Australian and Italian wines by the glass or the bottle. Blackwater also has beer on tap, local and imported bottled beers, and spirits. Blackwater strives for the most comparable service with its stunning views across The George’s River and premium Australian produce, Blackwater is the venue for any occasion to be special.

Blackwater is easily the best restaurant in the St. George area! The bread alone is worth a lunchtime booking! I have eaten there six times now, and prices are reasonable for the quality of food on offer. The noise levels are sometimes high, but it is always fun to watch families enjoying themselves. Service is unhurried, and the wine list is superior.   (Judith Rooney - April, 2011)

Dined at Blackwater twice over the christmas period and both times the meals and service was fantastic. Can't wait for my next visit.   (live - See my reviews (4) - January, 2011)

This restaurant is by far the best restaurant i have been to in a long time! i absolutely love it and cannot fault it. the room is way too dark at night, can't see menu properly. the menu has so much "foodie jargon" you are not sure of what you are ordering, staff ok, but very overpriced. corkage & "bithday cake serving fees" just a rip off   (jeanne - April, 2008)

attended Thursday night 6th March and found the whole experience a clash of ratings on one hand the food was great but our waitperson a young lady failed to impress me. She seemed to want to be anywhere else but serving us and was quite rude on a few occasions. Probably won't go back   (Gerry - March, 2008)

great service and i was very happy with the food. our waiter was great he was there when you wanted him, but he did not make you feel like he was rushing you, by hovering around the table. i will come here again, i highly recommend this restaurant   (August, 2007)

We have dined at Blackwater a number of times & will never tire of the great food & service. Probably the only reason I didn't give a 10 for food this time was that the oysters that were on the additions were not as tasty as I have had... otherwise, perfect.   (June, 2007)

    • Overall 8.5 - Food 8, Ambience 9, Value 8, Service 9

Went to this restaurant due to the great ratings on this website. My wife had the Pollo and I had a fish dish (don't recall the Italian name for it). The chicken was excellent, very tasty. The fish unfortunately was rather dry and tasteless, but the trimmings made the meal. They make a great Strawberry Daiquiri, and are very good on service. All the staff was very pleasant. I think that we would go there again; it would be a great place to have a night out with good friends.   (Tommy.D - May, 2007)

We found Blackwater to be equal to or the best local restaurant South of Captain Cook Bridge.

One small thing that our guests all agreed to was the annoying habit of the heavy cutlery when resting, slideing into the food. This was due to the unusal deep sided main course plates.

Could be a little messy at times!!

We are all looking forward to our next Blackwater night out!!   (John S - October, 2006)

    Chefs

Riccardo Roberti - Australian born Riccardo Roberti has worked as a chef/restaurateur most of his adult life, culminating in critical recognition for his restaurant, “Blackwater” at Sans Souci. Roberti has always been passionate in his support and application of fine Australian produce to Italian cuisine. Roberti’s considerable local experience has given him an intimate knowledge of the food industry in Australia, but his success can also be attributed to a long family history of food preparation. Riccardo’s mother came from a family of restaurateurs, with a deep-rooted history in Neapolitan cuisine, so when Roberti’s family emigrated from Naples to Sydney in the 1960’s they wasted little time in opening their first restaurant, “The Marion”. His mother eruditely passed her knowledge to her children where at a young age Riccardo began to understand that cooking truly great Italian food requires, as they say in Italy; great passion or nothing. More recently, Riccardo with partner Natasha Battikha opened Blackwater in 2005, where they strive to provide a raised platform of contemporary Italian cuisine, with a clear and palpable vision of enhancing his family’s view of how food from the Campania region should be served. The ambiance at Blackwater compliments this vision with it’s savvy, chic, sex appeal and warm chocolate brown interiors; bistro chairs, backlit white and black onyx across the open kitchen, floor to ceiling windows and a Veuve Clicquot lined bar. This creates a seamless setting for the Marcel Wanders Horse Lamp artwork which serves to enhance both the restaurant décor and superb vista. Without avoiding cliché it has become clear that Blackwater, given its waterfront location, has caused a splash on the Sydney restaurant scene. An unspoilt view across the Georges River, coupled with exceptional cuisine has proven to be the perfect combination, coaxing fine food lovers from all over Sydney including the Sydney Morning Herald ‘Good Food Guide’ and Sydney Eats ‘Flash Eats’. The recognition extends itself also to Milan in Italy with the Italian Academy of Cuisine’s recent ‘Optima’ rating.
