My wife and I found the quality of food and service was excellent. We were allowed sufficient time to study the menu. The waitress was friendly and helpful in the wine selection. We enjoyed our dining experience there and would love to visit the restaurant again when we come to Melbourne again next time.

Love Bluestone - an all time favourite of mine. Dined yesterday for a special ocassion with friends we enjoyed fabulous live jazz in the lounge to begin, and then dined in the restaurant upstairs for dinner. Scallops as always are delicious and the hopkins river steak was cooked to perfection with a rich red wine sticky reduction. Loved it!. Highly recommend the chai tea brulee for dessert. Service was really friendly and warm.

I had probably my last ever meal at Bluestone. I have been going there for over 7 years, but my experience tonight was woeful, very poor service, food coming out barely warm, roast potatoes undercooked, the list goes on. This used to be one of the best restaurants in Melbourne and one I looked forward to going to, but not any more.

      Restaurant response:
Thank-you for your feedback. Since April Bluestone has made some amazing changes to it's menu, and our new exec Chef Rob Harryman's food has a real english heritage, which is refelected in the new winter menu. Bluestone last week celebrated it's 10th birthday, something we are very proud of. I beleive your experience in April needs to be put aside - dispite both of our disappointment with your experience on that ocassion. I invite you to dine with us again, as I do beleive we must be doing something right to survive 10 years as a restaurant in Melbourne's CBD. Once again thank-you for your feedback. Food was very nice but my partner's steak had a lot of fat in it. Service was excellent and the staff were very knowledgeable about the food and wines available.

I'd heard lots of good things about Bluestone Restaurant, so went in with pretty high expectations. Also, given it's been a stayer in a very tough restaurant industry for 9 years tells me something too; you have to know what you're doing. Well, they certainly lived up to all expectations. I look back on our four-hour dinner (well, you need time to savour lots of different things!) as a great, memorable night. Both myself and the friend/pastry chef I went with are unashamedly food-obsessed, so every dish we had was pretty closely scrutinised. What we discovered was that Bluestone's chef has an incredibly unique talent for creating that elusive balance on a plate that so many others get wrong. The food just 'works'. Each dish had so many interesting elements. Even something as relatively simple as a whopping, great steak (no less than a 300gr char-grilled Hopkins River scotch fillet, mind you) was made all the more exciting with some fabulously plump, Turkish-style sauteed mushrooms that were amazing, along with a delicately balanced red wine jus. As for the hervey bay scallop entree, it was one of the most exciting things I've eaten all year. Not normally a great fan of scallops, I thought I'd break out of my comfort zone and try them done by those in the know - always a good way of breaking old food beliefs and habits. This dish was incredible. The scallops sat on a puree of jerusalem artichoke that was to die for. (Whoever would have thought that these two ingredients would harmonise so well together!) Then there were all sorts of other enticing bits to discover - candied bacon, zesty bits of Spanish onion, and fine slithers of the jerusalem's cousin that most of us are more familiar with, the globe artichoke. All in all, the menu's broad and very thoughtfully put together, with some dishes 'safe' enough for the more conservative palate, and others brimming with unusual, exciting ingredients, spices and flavour combinations to excite the more adventurous. The waiters, who explained everything was cooked to order, were all to happy too to accommodate a couple of minor requests we had about certain dishes. Bring it on! Bluestone was fab.

I went to Blue Stone for a 1st year anniversary and was not disappointed! The atmosphere was extraordinary and my partner said he had one of the best steaks he'd ever tasted! The service was fantastic. Highly recommended :)

I have consistently eaten at Bluestone for several years & every time have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is one of those places you can rely on every time for fantastic food & friendly service. Definite favourite spot for us in the city. Great food & unpretentious. The scallops are a Bluestone classic & a dish I just have to order every time, they are to die for.

We had a lovely dinner in probably one of the best dining atmospheres in Melbourne. The wine selection is diverse & offered a fair range by the glass. I had the Parmasan & herb crusted Scallops (5) that arrived on their natural fan shells. My guest had the Mussels arriving in a Moroccan Tagine, nice touch, & they were full of flavour. Our mains followed very promptly with my guests very large Scotch Fillet 400g aprox, on a bed of buttered button mushrooms. The steak cut left a lot to be desired & was very sinewy. We informed the waiter who appologised & promptly deleted a portion of the bill which was totally unexpected but appreciated. I had the shoulder of Lamb (falling off the bone & a pleasure to devour) which came as a wet dish sitting in a very fragrant moroccan stew of some sort with large chick peas. On this occasion we skipped dessert & opted for a coffee (latte) which in my experience is never good coming out of a restaurant kitchen, but was served with the usual condiments of multi coloured sugar cubes & was a very good cup of coffee. The service at Bluestone Restaurant is consistantly above average, well versed waiters know the menu inside out & that includes the wines ! Bluestone is one truly Underated Melbourne Gem but SHHHH... I want to get a reservation on a Saturday night !!

I booked to have an enjoyable evenings meal with my partner last night and was little less than impressed. The venue was very nice and pleasant, the initial service quite good, however we did find ourselves in the arkward situation deciding if we were to open our napkins or if the waiter were going to. In the end, after having a waiter come and tell us the fish of the day and then leave, we decided that it was up to us. The night first took a turn once the waitor took our order the, what looked like, head waiter came and asked for the booking coupon. I explaned that I had booked the dinner that day on-line and received no coupon. Not happy with this response he then decided it was appropriate, in front of my dinner guest, to enlighten me with the financial arrangements of the dinner and if I understood that it was a fixed price for meals plus extras. Shocked by this I nodded and smiled and said that all was fine and I was happy with the arrangement and that I would settle at the end of the evening. Both my partner and I were shocked by this but brushed it off. As we were enjoying our mains and a glass of wine the head waiter found it necessary, once again, to ask for a coupon and go through the pricing arrangements a second time. This I though to be totally out of order and sternly advised the waiter that I had no issue with the payment and theat I will settle at the end of the night. Finally at the end of the evening, I called for our bill. Our table waiter then proceeded to outline, in front of my guest, how it was "necessary" for them to split the costings up on my bill. Now, I eat at serveral different establishments through the week and am fairly tollerent to bad service but this was outside what I would normally expect. Frankly, with the quality of resturants in the area, I cannot see myself going back to Bluestone to receive that service. Food was nice and well presented, but the service left a lot to be desired.

Made welcome from the front enterance on arrival. Wonderful romantic setting for our 34th anniversary. Food excellent, service great. Value for money. We've been to many places that cost twice and much that weren't as good as Bluestone. Although busy, our location was intimate and didn't affect the personal service and attention by the waiter and waitress. We will definitely go again.

Everything good, and in keeping witht he previous ratings. On the night I was there it was a bit noisy as there were some loud / celebrating patrons. Despite the noise it was easy to have a conversation with my dinner partner.
