Food was great. Service was friendly but a little awkard at times. Also having the owner sitting there watching everyone was a bit weird. Not a bad place for a quiet dinner with your partner, probably not a great choice for a night out with friends... Sorry to say Tues. 21st.Oct. 08 not one of their best. Service initially was to usual standard. We (Party of 4) were seated, menu and specials presented. Entrees arrived in reasonable time... NB My comments are in respect of my meal only. I had the snails which were unusually served on a potato garlic mash, the garlic butter used to cook the snails had dried up along with the snails themselves making them less than appetizing. A storm was passing over, as the main course arrived, with a resultant heavy downpour, the rain coming in on the table(a likely hazard with the manner of construction and one which is readily accepted without reserve)... No problem as we were moved to another table, the meals were placed down and from that moment the service ceased.No member of staff came to the table until we had to ask for the bill, and hereby is my concern. For my main course was the Duck & at the first taste there was a problem, the flavour had a strong residual & unpleasant taste to it, so to verify this I asked one of the party to try it and see what they thought. Result they agreed there was something wrong with it. At this time I intended to send the meal back to the kitchen, however with no staff coming near us or within calling distance I just let it sit.( don't complain just don't come back was my decision) when the bill arrived and was presented even before commencing to clear the table, there was no asking if we wanted dessert or coffee, which could have been the desire of my fellow diners. But we had had enough of the lack of service, so we paid up and left. However I went back to the table as the waiter cleared my dinner plate, coincidently the last to be taken off, and I told him. Cafre St Tropez has been a favourite of ours for many years. In this latest visit, the menu for main courses was even more extensive than previously and we were spoilt for choice. Overall 10 - Food 10, Ambience 10, Value 10, Service 10
Best food we've eaten on the Gold Coast to date. The Bruschetta and Mediterranean salad are awesome. The mains were just as good. Fantastic afternoon spent. (April, 2008) Overall 9 - Food 9, Ambience 9, Value 9, Service 9
