More reviewsWell done Stephen Clarke. Another truly great food experiene at your restaurant. I was a bit concerned about one of the reviews and thought things must have changed. We tried the degustation menu and were able to change the duck course for the fish. The combinations of ingredients in every course was just amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed all the courses. The staff were fantastic and their knowledge on the ingredients was first class. Cant wait to go back.

My husband and I had our 10th anniversery dinner. We arrived 20 minutes early and were told that we would not have our orders taken until after our booking time which was fine, we were afterall early, but the fact that we would not be given menus or water until this time was a little dissapointing. After he brought over the menus we had to ask for sparkling water. Some how between walking from our table to the bar and having a joke with another waiter, he forgot the sparkling and gave us tap water instead. Our entrees of the scallops and marron were slightly over cooked and looked like they had just been thrown on the plate but the main course made up for it. The duck was tender and juicy and the fish was cooked to perfection. Sadly the waitstaff just wanted to do their own thing and not wait on our table at all. I guess that is just what you get for being early at Clarkes.

Had yet another amazing time /meal at this restaurant,it was obviously busy but they still managed to make us feel like we were the only ones there,perfect food,cold drinks,enough ice,great atmosphere,clean,my table of 8 will definitly be visiting again,thanks for the perfect evening X

We were reconfirmed with our booking the day before. On arrival our table was not ready and we were hurriedly put on to a table for 3 with the 4th setting put in place quite a few minutes later eventually without a serviette. Our drinks were not taken from us for refrigeration and after 20 minutes opened our own drinks. We sought champagne glasses and were given warm ones which we duly returned. We opened all our wine and beer throughout the night and to be charged a corkage of $4-00 per head at the end of the night was criminal. The saving grace was the food which was excellent. I really believe the front office let the side down in this instance.

I had a 60th birthday dinner there a week ago. I organized with restaurant a month before and after discussions were fairly happy with what we had arranged. On the night of arrival we had been crammed into a corner of the back room and were shown our seats given a glass of water and were told we could only have 1 ice buckets per table between 12 people. People were left with hot wine over the evening. I had been told on booking that we were to be given a table to place our wines on in ice. We were then ignored for an hour until I went and asked for some bread for the tables which was then bought out and our orders were then taken. We had sat there for one and a half hours before entree was being served. Once the entree was served the food then flowed reasonably well. The food was very nice however everything seemed too much trouble for the waitstaff and they seemed to all be in bad moods, water was only topped up in glasses when i had requested and none of the wines were topped up or opened by staff. This was a very special night for me and a expensive one. I cameway very disappointed and embarrassed as I felt the service was no better than a foodhall...

my wife had told me about this place and how her friends really enjoyed the food . I'm no food critic but I know my food well and how it can and cannot be cooked and served. So for a birthday dinner my wife booked us in. We were greeted and sat at our table and I must say I thought the waiter was very pleasant and kind and within minutes he had given us the menu and taken our wine and poured it I was at ease and relaxed. Excellent work. To cut to the chase first impressions last and the service was very good and informative. The food was fantastic a good selection to choose from and well priced too.My taste buds sizzled when we we left , it was a wonderful evening . Highly recommended.

My husband and I enjoyed a wedding anniversary dinner at Clarke's and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We both found the food to be imaginatory and delicious. Whilst I am limited in terms of menu options, being an ovo-lacto vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy a selection of foods that tasted delicious whilst not being laden with carbohydrates. My husband travels extensively with his work and appreciated the best scallops and one of the most beautifully cooked steak fillets he has ever been served, at Clarke's. The triple chocolate dessert was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Overall, the food was spot on, the ambiance was perfect and the service was impeccable. Thank you for a wonderful evening. We feel confident recommending Clarke's to our friends and business associates.

Quiet perfection
I had heard great things about Clarke’s and was very eager to try it out, making it a special event for my husband and friends. Unfortunately, the night was tainted right from the start! We were left to stand by the doorway for ages without any acknowledgement from the head waiter or waitress who walked past us several times without even a welcome, much less actual seating at a table. When we finally got acknowledged and I gave my name to check against the booking I’d made weeks in advance, I had “WHAT?” barked at me by the head waiter. I was stunned by how rude he was. I actually ended up finding my name on the booking sheet myself as it all just seemed too hard for him to find a simple, common name. Once we were directed to our table, it took some time for us to get our menus and drinks. Once again, we were ignored. I couldn’t believe how long it took for our waitress to come back to us to take our orders. I established eye contact with her a number of times, indicating that we were ready, but she was too busy serving everyone else to even acknowledge me. The same is to be said for the waiter. Other people who came in AFTER us were served well before us. When said people are sitting at the table right next to you, it’s just blatantly rude. I all but had to stand up and yell out to get the waitress to come to our table and take our order. It was extremely frustrating and embarrassing when I’d raved on about the restaurant to my fellow diners. Once our orders were taken, things improved marginally. I do have to say that the food was spectacular. No complaints there. For what you got, the price charged was fair. I was very impressed with all elements of my meal and everyone else enjoyed their meal greatly too. I highly commend the chef on his imagination and skill. However, for a fine dining experience, it’s about more than just the food. Frankly, good food can be had in a number of different places, even at home. What you are really paying for and treating yourself to is the experience, especially the service and this was terrible. I truly couldn’t believe how poor the staff were who had the onerous task of serving us. I was really made to feel like I was not welcome there and that other diners were more valued and appreciated. In addition, the ambience of the restaurant as a whole was very average. It truly is a shame as I did find the food scrumptious, but I doubt I’d be going back to Clarke’s again.

I have been telling friends about this restaurant for a long time and we finally dinned there last night. My friends dine out on a very regular basis so have tried many so called top restaurants. They were blown away by the food, the way it is presented and the service. Their comments "by far the best BYO they have ever dined in and close to the best restaurant ever". The young lady who served us, Bree, was a delight she certainly knew the menu and was able to answer all our questions. We will be back!!!

I agree with you all the food was excellent, the service great, BUT I think it is very expensive for what you get. I got the impression that it was a restuarant that the ambience was not a cafe style we were sat out the back which felt like we were sitting on an enclosed old timber veranderah (which is was) the only table in the middle of the room felt like we were the centre attraction with the other tables surronding us against the walls everyone watching us. Tried it once, don't think I will be back. Loved the food, but not the atmosphere.
31/01/08 we had a most spectacular evening of wonderful taste explosions of food and the company of Steve, Kim, Danelle & Angel made it that more special.. We took some friends one evening as a thank you for help at one time. The food is of the best quality and the way the plate is decorated is just artistic. The best service we have ever had at a restaurant. Clarke's made us all feel very special. A restaurant where one can talk across the table and hear all the conversations.Although not cheap, it is a must try for that special occasion
