The Foundry Pub & Grill opened in 1999 as part of the redevelopment of the Westfield Carousel Shopping Centre. It replaced the Carousel Tavern which had been demolished a number of years earlier. The Foundry forms part of the lifestyle and entertainment precinct of the shopping centre integrating cinema, dining, entertaining and retailing to provide you with an inviting, comfortable and safe destination for a wide range of leisure activities. The design creates a sense of history based on the contemporary portrayal of an old Australian Steelworks. It is reminiscent of a 1950's factory with a two storey glass and red brick facade.

The interior has a warm welcoming ambience with wooden floors, exposed trusses and ductwork and a feature island bar. The period industrial components are tastefully balanced with fixtures and fittings consistent with the theme. The Foundry caters for a wide range of clients. We have become established as a reputable cafe / restaurant, serving traditional pub staples, and a destination site for lunch, dinner and weekend breakfast. The Foundry offers tranquil respite for shoppers to enjoy lunch or coffee and cake with full friendly service. With several soft furnishings and a well stocked magazine stand, the avid shopper can lounge in comfort.

This is one of my regular haunts. When I go for an evening meal, I usually order the rib eye. The majority of time it is value for money, a very well cooked meal, good presentation and more than enough for one person. On this occasion however, there seemed to be something amiss with the quality. The rib eye actually tasted more like mutton than beef, and the prawns that accompany the meal tasted as if they had been thawed from the last ice age, very watery and bland.

However, when I raised this to the manager, I was impressed by the professionalism and courtesy displayed. I outlined my concerns on the meal and they were met with an apology and a promise of follow up with the kitchen. Further to this, when I mentioned I wouldn't expect to pay full price for a meal I did not enjoy (I had already consumed about 50% to make sure it wasnt just a portion of the meal gone bad) they had no qualms about removing the whole cost from the bill.

For a pub grill, bravo on the service, well done.   (morgan the bear - See my reviews (2) - October, 2009)

overall a nice experience, but because had made the effort to make a booking would have preferred to be seated inside and definitely need to change the seats, as they are not the most comfortable to sit on, otherwise would go back a second time and recommend this restaurant to my friends   (See my reviews (2) - May, 2008)

Really enjoyed our evening, meals wonderful and staff really attentive. Would recomend dining there my friend lives locally, I however travelled via public transport from Bayswater and well worth the trip. It was also great to be able to attend a movie after dining. One thing I would like to add, perphaps a light dessert (fruit salad or sorbet) enjoyable as your desserts are were are too heavy to finish off our meal with. Also we enjoyed the breeze, others did not or had a problem with the glare so rods for the large doors to be kept open, half way to suit every diner would also be helpful. Thank you we had a great night.   (January, 2008)
