"The worst meal I have ever had. Took over 30 minutes for our order to be taken. After waiting an hour, one disgusting dish had been brought out without the rice so we could just sit and stare at it as it went cold....not that it looked or smelled too appetising! They clearly pre-cook the food and nuke it in a microwave....awful. The pork buns were like a hockey puck. The table cancelled our orde.."
"We had a party of 5, and had entrees and 5 main dishes. Some of these were excellent, one or two were average, but the shallot pancakes were dull - no shallot and cooked in oil fish had been cooked in, by the taste. The disappointing thing was service. We had to ask for the menus, for water, and for attention whenever we wanted it. At $30 a head, the price is good." more reviews

After waiting an hour, one disgusting dish had been brought out without the rice so we could just sit and stare at it as it went cold....not that it looked or smelled too appetising! They clearly pre-cook the food and nuke it in a microwave....awful. The pork buns were like a hockey puck. The table cancelled our order after waiting over an hour. The staff were apologetic and acknowledged how poor their food and service had been. (Sichuan Hell - September, 2011) Overall 6 - Food 8, Ambience 6, Value 7, Service 3

Food was OK, but he service was horrendous. After the initial round of steamed dishes, our party of four waited for 20 minutes before the next round of dishes came by. This, in my view, is NOT how Yum Cha is served - should be constant. We were ready to get up and leave and the manager I think overheard our comments and came straight over to rectify the situation. The place wasn't that busy (was 1.00pm) so no excuses there. Felt like the staff were only interested in catering for the Asian customers anyway. With New Shanghai closing down it seems like Yum cha in canberra is no more. Tried 4 rivers on the weekend with Chinese friends form Sydney who all agreed it was average at best. (February, 2008) Overall 9.8 - Food 10, Ambience 9, Value 10, Service 10
The food was fabulous, extremely tasty, nice relaxed environment with music. the service is excellent now. (PJ - January, 2008) |
