DAYS OF BUSINESS

Mon - Sun:18:00 to 23:59
Patrons sit on cushioned rugs on the floor with supported back rests, low tables and very dim lighting. All the tables (or booths) are enclosed by sheer curtains.

The atmosphere is very private and especially intimate for couples.

Garuva caters both to couples and larger gatherings of up to thirty people.

During the week the mood of the restaurant is very tranquil (hence the name) although Friday and Saturday nights tend to be busier and loud.

"Gaurvas is a total disappointment, The food was watery and way too expensive for entree sized dishes. It is a shame that all dishes (including vegetarian meals) were the same price, considering how much less expensive vegetarian meals cost to prepare. My meal, which consisted of some breads and dip (shared) 1dish, some rice and a cocktail, was 40 dollars. Very excessive. The seating was cramped.." more reviews

Gaurvas is a total disappointment, The food was watery and way too expensive for entree sized dishes. It is a shame that all dishes (including vegetarian meals) were the same price, considering how much less expensive vegetarian meals cost to prepare. My meal, which consisted of some breads and dip (shared) 1dish, some rice and a cocktail, was 40 dollars. Very excessive. The seating was cramped and uncomfortable. The novelty of sitting on the floor wore off after most of our table started getting pins and needles. It was also way too dark. The waitresses were snappy and very slow to bring drinks. The cocktails were terrible - they had been watered down and none of the ingredients were fresh. We were only allowed to stay for 2 hours, which was ridiculous. There are far better restaurants in Brisbane - don't waste your time.   (Rachel - May, 2008)

It was a fun night. Glad we got to do it. The bread was great. The rest of the meal seemed overpriced for quality and quantity.   (May, 2008)

We recently celebrated my daughters 19th birthday on a Wednesday evening. The cocktials in the lounge were very refreshing and tasty. The floor cusions need some extra padding as not enough couches to go around. A funky band would have added to the atmosphere but I guess only happens at the weekend. Glad I booked as it was full of birthday parties - all ages. Food was great this time and plenty to go around. Service excellent. Will be back. Thanks   (See my reviews (2) - April, 2008)

Overall 8.8 - Food 10, Ambience 10, Value 10, Service 5

I have been to Garuvas a couple of times and both times the food was fabulous and the service was ok. The waiters are attentive when they are there but when you are there with a large group you tend to wait a long time for your drinks - that is my only complaint everything else is excellent and I have recommended this restaurant to many friends.   (January, 2008)

"The imperative is for diners to come down to earth and “relax heart and soul”..."

Kylie Lang, Brisbane News and Dining Out Guide 2007 - August 2007
"Take your place on cushioned rugs to dine in the privacy of a tent-like structure made from sheer curtains. Even when the live bands play on Friday and Saturday nights, you can be secluded in one of the eight booths. Well-priced cocktails become even more appealing when happy hour is extended."

Kylie Lang, Brisbane News Dining Out Guide 2006 - September 2006
"Diners are seated behind-muslin curtains on cushions at this intimate restaurant, which really does feel like a garden. The menu is a mix of Japanese, Thai... Australian wines dominate the list, although there are cocktails to enjoy at the bar, too."

Madeline Healy, The Courier-Mail Good Life Restaurant Guide 2006 - January 2006
