      It's been a couple of years since I'd stepped foot in the Gilbert after a bad last expereince but my local the Brecknock has now closed so time to give it another go. The food was ok, menu has improved and seems less pretentious, unfortunately the staff still are. Customer service needs improving before I would consider calling this place my local again.   (Ryan - April, 2011)

      Yep. Sunday session at the Gilbert. wonderful Bloody Mary and the the XO Kangaroo was to die for. great jazz band. was good to chill out! wine list was outstanding too!

      Although the place still looks fantastic, the new menu and new chef are a let down. The menu is full of fancy words describing the produce and where is it supposed to be from, although I doubt it. It's now overpriced and under done.   (Ryan - See my reviews (2) - August, 2008)

      Great for a few drinks after work then a meal. Cut above your "pub" meal, with a good menu and well propared and presented dishes. Can eat inside or out and staff are friendly. Have been back a number of times.   (jorge - See my reviews (39) - August, 2007)

    Grant Schooling - Grant’s culinary talents have recently won international acclaim by winning the International Mushroom Cooking Competition in Beijing. He competed against 150 international chefs winning over the judges with two of his signature dishes. Grant aspires to promote the values of local and fresh produce and the importance of healthy cooking. He has already established a reputation working with Michael Keelan through a weekend cooking program on Radio 5AA demonstrating his love for the Mediterranean cuisine. This commitment is further evident through his menus and working closely with dairy and mushroom producers.
