  Sumptuous food and ambience...at times I thought I was back in Perugia or Montepulciano. The bottle of Brunello we shared was superb and the advice from the sommeliere was informed and honest. Each of the meat based dishes on the degustazione menu had its own jus which were spectacular if a little too rich when taken one after the other.   We dined in the restaurant. The food was excellent, although the service was good we did feel a bit rushed. It was very noisey as there were a lot of groups dining. Not really the atmosphere we were expecting seeing as this restaurant is noted as the most romantic in Melbourne. All this aside we enjoyed our meal.   (December, 2007)

  Generally very good. However, for the price there were some shortcomings. Wine did not come out with the courses and had to be asked for. One red wine was served chilled for some reason which the waiter could not explain. Staff were very friendly (well trained in this aspect) but overall service should have been somewhat better.   (See my reviews (3) - October, 2007)

  Menulog didn't offer the choice of Grill or Restaurant so ended up upstairs. Could not fault the service - very attentive, loved the handbag stool!! Food was well prepared and tasted wonderful - chose the signiture dish and enjoyed it thoroughly. Great for a special night when the prices don't look overly expensive.... Would recommend it to those who would enjoy its class and stature.   (Dining experience - September, 2007)

  Very disappointing - the first thing was that the restaurant definitely didn't feel cosy - it was cold. We mentioned it to the waiter and we were told the heating had been adjusted on a number of occasions but it we never felt warm. The second thing I tasted my friends entre the lobster dish was really salty and the scallop dish was bland. I sampled a few of the main meals, mine was quite nice, my partners had the goat and it was overcooked and not a great flavour. My friend had the pasta with preserved artichoke and all you could taste was the vinegar, my mother-in-law had the lobster risotto was had an unusal flavour (not great) and my other friend had the Red Emperor which was tough and not tasty. For an upmarket and expensive restaurant it was very very disappointing and we will definitely not return.   (See my reviews (2) - August, 2007)

  A fantastic "occasion" restaurant and the food and service are far and above the best I have experienced. The dining room itself is amazing and the cozy tables situated along the walls are intimate enough yet not restricting.   Grossi Florentino is undoubtedly regarded as one of Melbourne's finest restaurants, and it was because of this reputation that we choose it for a 60th birthday celebration for 4 people on Friday night. We started with a bottle of Billecart and from the extensive menu choose superb entrees all thoroughly enjoyed: Crab stuffed in baby capsicum, zucchini flowers stuffed with yabbies and rabbit terrene. Main Course we had: Lamb wet roasted truly the best dish served through the course of the meal. Wild Boar ragu pappadelle was delicious. Duck with duck sausage also very good. Pheasant was pleasant but not remarkable. The service was friendly but surprisingly amateurish. 6 different staff served the table, each attending to the same things (mineral water topped up constantly). Bread rolls and cutlery dropped on the floor during silver service, all minor considering the evening we were enjoying. However, our waiter made two fatal mistakes. First pouring a bottle of wine from a different table in to our glasses, spoiling our pinot (at $110 a bottle). Second fatal mistake was returning with a "complimentary bottle" of pinot but of a different variety and taste. From the outset the same bottle should have been replaced without charge. A disappointing tarnish on what was a superb meal. Overall highly recommended restaurant.   (Grossi Florentino - May, 2007)

  Very good. Not many reasonably priced wines to accompany the food which was sublime. Loved the wine waiter - he had the human touch. Booked through Menulog and wasn't given the choice of Grill room or upstairs, so found ourselves in the rarefied atmosphere up there. It was a celebration, but would have liked the choice. And then had to ask at the Grill if we had a booking and to be sent on up. Not a great start but welcomed and treated well. Would recommend for a special occasion.   (December, 2006)
