waited 1 hour to be served a salty piece of pure fat and some slushy yellow stuff!!

Food and service was wonderful on our 1st visit, so much so that we decided to book and have dinner there for my husband's birthday. Unfortunately they booked us in under the wrong day and I had to find an alternative venue the day before for 18 people. I would definately suggest double checking your booking with them. I have learnt my lesson.

Found the food and venue outstanding. I guess the fact that one has to book so far in advance is a good indicator of the popularity.

Had heard good things but not really that impressed. I dined with 12 other friends and more than 1/2 of us were disapointed with our meals. We had grit in our salad, the chicken dishes were lacking in flavour, banana prawns not tiger prawns were served with the surf and turf, the meat was chared so all you could taste was charcoal, not nice! The service and ambience of the place was good but won't be back again.

i love hippo creek its a family business where they use good quality products, fresh ingredients and the finest meat in the country. service is lacking a little but when you go out its about the whole experience and i do get tired of people picking out such stupid things. i went with four others and we were well looked after. the meals where huge and the chefs in the kitchen looked extremely happy to be there. i have eaten at both the scarborough and hilarys restaurant and i really cant fault anything. they are two separate restaurants with two separate feel but one thing in common GREAT STEAK. so thanks hippo i will be returning. keep up the good work

Shocking food and poor service - don't waste you money or your time!

Asked for a very well done fillet steak and got exactly what I wanted. It was very tender, the best steak I have had at a restaurant. Was very happy. Air conditioning was a bit cool. Service was very good.

I really enjoyed the experience and the food.

Love their new place and decoration, very spacious and colorful. The staff were all very efficient, friendly, polite and helpful. The food was cooked to perfection, generous amount for the price. Great presentation and timing of food. Plenty of parking space and a great view. The amarula chocolate mousse was to die for. Very pleased with the evening and can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu.

This was my first visit to a Hippo Creek. We went for breakfast and I thought the menu was exceptional for the price and there was a good variety of meals and a fantastic herbal tea selection. I thought the ambience and decor was was tasteful and went well with the african theme. The service however was lacked alot. The staff were friendly enough but they didn't seem to realise that customers shouldn't have to yell out excuse me and wave their hands around to get the attention of one of the many staff members walking past. Just a tip to the Hippo Creek staff members: Customers will generally be looking at you because they want service not because they have nothing else to look at. Overall it was quite a good breakfast experience but I think unless the staff are given ALOT of training, they would let Hippo Creek down and it will just become a well dressed Sizzler.

I must say I was very dissapointed with the new Hippo Creek. There was no ambience, it just felt like a big sterile cafe, not the cosy little restaurant it used to be. Everytime I ate at the old Hippo the food was to die for, I was a little let down this time, the steak was slightly overcooked and the aircon was on flat out and my meal was almost cold by the time I ate it. Bring back Scarborough Hippo!!

No one seems to be in charge...lots of activity,but no real "we care about your business" feel...almost impossible to get the waitpersons attention,short of standing up and clapping your hands (which we did)...Steaks are good,and portions reasonable..but I would not break my neck to go back ..P.S They should clean the toilets every now and then!

We ate hear after hearing that it was fab and the mains were very good a little pricey, starters not so good. When we arrived we were sat next too the biggest table in the place our waitress then found it hard to serve everyone and getting her attention was quit difficult too. We felt rushed through our dinner and In the end we were not even asked about deserts, tea or coffee they took our plates and that was that!! It was a lovley restaurant but would have been fab only for it been over crowded

We ate here hearing that it was the place of all place to eat, meant to be fab. Now I will say the food was lovely but I got the feeling that we were been rushed through it. The waitress that was serving us also had a table of 15 or more who of course were right behind us, it was hard to get her attention for anything, my white wine was a little off, cutlery was forgotten at one stage and we werent even asked about deserts. I did like the place and but maybe a few little changes can be made. A place that is ablwys busy should be able to cope with a busy restaurant if not please dont take as many booking as it was lovely but could have been so much more!

We had been told that this was a great place to eat. Was unable to get in on a number of occasions. Finally booked my wife and myself in menu was ok nothing to rave. Went again with 4 colleagues service person would have been the rudest waiter i have met. will never go there again even though the food second time was good can not understand how repeat business in gaind with such poor staff.

Did not get past the booking... we were told that the restaurant was ALWAYS EXTREMELY BUSY and we could only be given a table for 1 1/4 of an hour on any given evening, which was "plenty of time to eat" (!) - not my idea of customer service. (The rating of food, ambience and value for money is based on the evaluation of a third party who was taken there as a guest in the past)

I take interstate guests there every chance I get. Love the place, keep up the good work :)

We visited Hippo Creek at 6,30 p.m. on Sat, 14.4.08 and ordered an Avo Dugout to share because we were not aware that there was only one half of an avocado. Please arrange to change your description to Avo HALF stuffed with a seafood mix in a tangy seafood sauce. Considering that the retail price of an avocado pear is no more than $2.50 each, we felt that the price of $16.00 for this dish was way over the top.

We really had a lovely time at Hippo Creek, the food was lovely. Most of the table had the Hunters Assaghi and everyone really enjoyed it. Although you couldn't smell it from the restaurants, the smell of the toilets was a tad off putting.

Food is the best i've tasted in a long time! Ostrich and Buffalo highly recommended. Service is first class. Very hard to beat this place for a great meal. Been four times in last 6 months, never been disappointed. Thanks!

We have been twice and the first time we were extremely impressed with everything - service, attention from staff, atmosphere, food. the 2nd time wasn't any different it was still great and excellent.

We go there all the time, love the place.
