Shocking food and poor service - don't waste you money or your time!   (Patrick - February, 2010)

Asked for a very well done fillet steak and got exactly what I wanted. It was very tender, the best steak I have had at a restaurant. Was very happy. Air conditioning was a bit cool. Service was very good.   (well done - December, 2009)

Love their new place and decoration, very spacious and colorful. The staff were all very efficient, friendly, polite and helpful. The food was cooked to perfection, generous amount for the price. Great presentation and timing of food. Plenty of parking space and a great view. The amarula chocolate mousse was to die for. This was my first visit to a Hippo Creek. We went for breakfast and I thought the menu was exceptional for the price and there was a good variety of meals and a fantastic herbal tea selection. I thought the ambience and decor was was tasteful and went well with the african theme. The service however was lacked alot. The staff were friendly enough but they didn't seem to realise that customers shouldn't have to yell out excuse me and wave their hands around to get the attention of one of the many staff members walking past. Just a tip to the Hippo Creek staff members: Customers will generally be looking at you because they want service not because they have nothing else to look at. Overall it was quite a good breakfast experience but I think unless the staff are given ALOT of training, they would let Hippo Creek down and it will just become a well dressed Sizzler.   (Chas - March, 2009)

I must say I was very dissapointed with the new Hippo Creek. There was no ambience, it just felt like a big sterile cafe, not the cosy little restaurant it used to be.

Everytime I ate at the old Hippo the food was to die for, I was a little let down this time, the steak was slightly overcooked and the aircon was on flat out and my meal was almost cold by the time I ate it.

it was a sweet experience the kilo steak that i had and completed was so nice and the staff there a really cool   (Nice - January, 2009)

Perfect setting for a midweek family celebration meal. Two out of three contestants managed the kilo t-bone, a good effort. The interesting African theme and menu was a delight, and staff were attentive and friendly. Loved my lamb/rice dish that I couldn't pronounce. They try to create food with a difference which is ok.

The lettuce in the salad had sand which can happen but not to both of us.

The steak was over cooked, fatty and over priced which is never an issue for us if properly prepared.

The service was slow and poor.

We were dissapointed after some of our friends saying it was so good.

At the end when we complained to the lady at the count who couldn't of cared less.

No one seems to be in charge...lots of activity,but no real "we care about your business" feel...almost impossible to get the waitpersons attention,short of standing up and clapping your hands (which we did)...Steaks are good,and portions reasonable..but I would not break my neck to go back ..P.S They should clean the toilets every now and then!   (Peter from Cottesloe - See my reviews (4) - October, 2008)
