I have been here and the food is very good, and there are a couple of waiters that are excellent. When they are in, everything works well and one could not ask for more. However, when they are not there, the service can only be described as abysmal. I have had one of the best meals I have ever had there, but last time, none of the staff that served us before were in, and our table was studiously ignored. They had run out of ice (the place was not busy) and the waiter stood over us as soon as he dropped the menu on our table, expecting us to order, when we didn't, we were studiously ignored, this went on for 1/2 hour, before I had had enough and we walked out. I will not be back as I think that too many places in Sydney are below par in basic waiting or customer service skills or are substandard in food. Unfortunately King Crab House is one of those, at least on the service level. (See my reviews (2) - January, 2008)
This restaurant stands out amongst local offerings with its great menu and wide choice of fresh seafood (an entire wall of live tanks with everything on offer). It's hard to go wrong at this restaurant in fact when it comes to the food as so much there is simply so very good at reasonable prices. Be sure to check out the Chef Specialty Menu there are some real gems on that menu, The Golden Rice with Dried Scallop and the Chinese Style Special Mushroom Dish is outstanding for what most of us would view as a strictly vegetarian offering. If Seafood is not your thing go with any of the beef dishes, They use great quality fillet steak here in most of there beef dishes and there Fillet Steak in Special Sauce is very good indeed. This place has an interesting ambience to it with a Large Plasma Screen running Chinese TV on it and the restaurant is normally packed with lots of family groups and or big tables with a real mixed room feel with an enthusiastic background hum to it. The service here is also very good, the wait staff are good and won’t think any less of you if your don’t speak Chinese etc. It’s the little touches in the service that really stand out and bring the service quality up to the standard of the food at this place.
