Like chewing plastic would be the easiest way to explain my dinner. Never again   (August, 2008)

I chose to take a friend who came for a visit from Brisbane to Kobe Jones Melbourne because I like the one in Sydney. I was so impressed with the food, the ambience and the service there. It was value for money and it was absolutely satisfied. To my horror, everything was below ordinary at the Melbourne one. I ordered the same dishes that I did when I went to KJ in Sydney just to find out that they are very disappointing. Even the beer smelled and tasted weird. Very disappointed, I won't go back there again. Please find this as a constructive review from me as I love Japanese food and KJ Sydney has convinced me that jap food with a twist works as well as true-blue traditional one. Thanks, Saree.   (May, 2008)

An enjoyable experience but a bit far to go for it   (Anonymous - See my reviews (40) - May, 2008)

Overall 5.5 - Food 8, Ambience 7, Value 4, Service 3

The service was the only thing that let this place down. No attention from the waiting staff had to almost go to them to get a drinik. The meal was multiple courses but courses were sent out too quickly which made us feel like we were being pushed out the door. This all left me feeling that the value for money was poor.   (April, 2008)

Overall 7.5 - Food 9, Ambience 10, Value 8, Service 3

Beautiful food and setting, however the service for drinks and clearing the table was extremly slow. The food coming out was very fast and probably was the one of the best meals we have had, however the service was certainly a big let down. We actaully left without ordering coffee/dessert due to them not coming over to give us the dessert menu even though we requested this.   (March, 2008)

i love the tenderloin the desserts and all the service is really sophisticated. I haven't found any restaurant better than this ever. Also, i did get the offer for the main course pay one for two. Hmm, it just added the extra rating for Kobe Jones Docklands Melbourne   (March, 2008)

I made a booking on 8 January 2008 for a very special wedding anniversary for Saturday 23 February 2008, requested a table with water views and picked out a special banquet to be served. On friday late afternoon on 15 February received a call to cancel as they suddenly cannot fit me in due to a PRIVATE FUNCTION, the man as I cannot call him a gentleman was not sympathetic to my plight, he actually could not of given a continental, he stated "theres other restaurants you can book with", I have now been left in the lurch without a surprise anniversary day ending with a romantic meal for myself and my husband, this has left a very very sour taste Kobe Jones, a restaurant that only gives consideration to large party bookings.   (February, 2008)

Nice food and nice view of the dock   (February, 2008)

Overall 8.3 - Food 9, Ambience 8, Value 8, Service 8

great food - alittle quiet for my liking but the service needs some attention. very young , limited english speaking waiters was not great. taking drinks off the table while having a cigarette on the balcony is not good practice. still they offered to replace the drinks .   (January, 2008)

“For those yet to experience the Kobe Jones phenomenon, the restaurant has stamped its mark on Australian cuisine with its modern Japanese food with a delicate Californian twist…The novelty of dining Kobe Jones-style, with its emphasis on communal eating rather than private dining, makes it a lively and sociable night out…The views stretch across Melbourne’s Waterfront, taking in the Bolte Bridge to the west and the Melbourne cityscape to the east. Their sophisticated and stylish bar can whip up a signature cocktail to accompany the stunning view, or you can select from a variety of sake and an excellent range of beers and Australian wines…”
