Great seafood, warm atmosphere and excellent service. Thanks Ruel for making our night fabulous!
A perfect blend of Service, decor and incrediable cuisine. If its seafood you come for its plentiful, fresh and cooked to perfection. Come with a empty stomach as the serving sizes are extremely generous. Staff could not be more helpful and nothing was to much trouble. Have the whole Southern Rock Lobster flame grilled as you wont be disappointed with the size and flavour. Byo wine - no corkage. This place is a winner
This was our first time at the lobster cave; we had heard the wine list was pretty special but were suprised to see actually how good it was... there was nothing missing! The waiters were very well groomed and looked after us us all night. We ordered a three coarse dinner with up to five or six choices. I would definately reccomend it, for it was great value and great service. The complimentary Irish cream and choclates at the end of the night were a nice touch. There were so many things to choose from on the menu that we will definately be back to try some more !
Impressive wine list! Professional waiters! excellent food! What else do you need? Looking forward going again !!
When you are dining here at the Lobster Cave, you canot help but feel like you are at a 5 star dinner party. The staff could not be more attentive, friendly and informative. We were offered flat water or sparkling mineral water on arrival and we opted for the sparkling it was a real cleanser as we had driven some distance to get to our destination. Thought this was very professional of our waiter Hamish. We then had a specials menu "Seafood Indulgence" three courses for $59.00 for two people, along with the option of a Lobster Tail top up for a further $29(Yummy) excellent value and portion sizes large. The food was of excellent quality. Cannot wait to come back. Thank you.
we were looking forward for a great night out with our overseas visiters. Lobster was definately on the menu for us. When we got there we got a table right in front of the door. We asked if we could be seated elsewhere, but where told the door would be shut. Which did for maybe 1 minute and then the service for the outdoor diners would open and shut the door all evening. There were enough tables availabel elsewhere in the restaurant to place us. The waiter was very short spoken, didn't get the gloves they were wearing. We where asked if we wanted a garlic or herb bread to start with, which we ordered. It contained of 6 pices of crispy bread, some olives, dips and cheese. Very expensiv as turns out it cost $28. Also you did not nead an entree for we had the seafood platter which would have fed 4 people easyly. Now the food was very nice, but a bit over priced for our likings as you could have gotten simular seafood somewhere else cheaper! We definately will not go back again.
Best Restaurant in Melbourne! In our opinion! The food and presentation amazing, the service is fabulous, the wait staff are friendly and the atmosphere makes the dining experience one of the best we have ever experienced. From the moment you are greeted at the door to the moment you leave, you are made to feel that you are the most important people in the restaurant. From our first visit 2 ½ years ago, we have constantly enjoyed our dining experience where we now frequent on a weekly basis. The quality of the seafood continues to amaze us. When we asked one night, why there were no oysters on the menu, we were advised the quality of oyster was not up the Bill Ferg’s standard (due to oysters sporning) and were temporarily off the menu. Whilst we were disappointed we couldn’t have oysters, we were most impressed that the Cave was not prepared to serve an inferior product. Every meal we have had at this restaurant has been a fabulous dining experience and we are continually amazed at the quality of the food. The menu is evolving all the time, so even when frequenting weekly, we always find new items to tempt our palets. Can’t wait till our next visit !!!! Julie & Michael, Beaumaris

Is one of the recent reviewers affiliated with the restaurant he is claiming to be so excellent? We've recently dined here as we always do for our wedding anniversary and the staff really looked after us. complimentary sparkling after we first sat down which was a lovely surprise. The meals we ate were excellent, the standout being the steak I had. My husband is the seafood lover. Thank goodness they offer an alternative for those of us who love meat! The red wine was delightful, that our waiter recommended. Thanks for a lovely evening.
Great food, great service & great atmosphere !! Yet again ~ SENSATIONAL ! ~ From the moment you are welcomed at the door, seated at your table to the final morsel of food or sip of Butterscotch schnapps or perfectly made coffee ~ what can I say except ~ EXCELLENT !! The seafood is perfectly cooked ~ and the presentation is magnificent. Everyone in our party found the whole dinning experience a total joy. Bill and his staff continue to excel and we will keep coming back.
Really excited about going to the Lobster Cave but experience was disappointing. Service slow. Wanted to order half a lobster as per menu but told it was not available. Whole lobster or nothing. As two of us wanted the same thing we got our half lobster each although we had to dig around to find the meat amongst the sauce.
Lobster caves food is overpriced, and very average, when you pay a 5 star price tag you expect 5 star service and food. If you dine at the Lobster cave you will be disappointed ! If your looking for great food, great service at a great price go to Melba at the Langham...you wont be disappointed.. Absolutely Delicious. Lobster Cave has had its day. The say the best advertising is word of mouth... Try Mela at the Langham you will love it !
Having moved interstate now, this was one of my favourite Melbourne restaurants. Needless to say that on a recent visit to family we went here for a special dinner. The staff make you feel welcome and the food is exceptional. I always make it a point to have lobster, I just love it and they never disappoint. Just wish the Lobster Cave would move interstate too!
Overpriced, the lobster was dry and $15 for 2 glasses of sparkling mineral water is outrageous, considering I hadn't asked for it
Fantastic night out with great food and an interesting wine list. We had lobster (of course!) and it was very tender and delicious. We have been here before and enjoyed it. Hopefully it's not too long until we get back again. Highly recommended.
Very over priced and food was just average. And there was sneaky hidden costs. A restrictive menu of Saturday nights :( Find another Seafood Restaurant in Melbourne)
Lobster Cave Review
Being a lover of seafood I was excited to be invited by friends for a special occasion dinner. We had the 6 course degustation menu and the standout was the lobster tail with a delicious pilaf. So juicy and moist. The staff seemed very capable. I will be returning.
It's always a pleasure for me to dine at The Lobster Cave. I love the food and the staff always make the effort to make my experience a great one. I go here because I simply adore seafood and not once have I been able to fault the food. My recommendation is to go for lunch as they always have great specials.
Exceptional food, great service ( thanks Dina ) and lovely ambiance. The whole dinner was marvelous. From the Salt & pepper Squid to a perfectly cooked Medium rare Angus beef rump ~ My partner had the Lobster Bisque & Seafood Linguine ~ A perfect 51st Birthday dinner. This is the 10th plus time we have eaten there and it still never fails to impress ~ with both food & service. A ++++
The Lobster Cave is undoubtedly the finest seafood restaurant in Melbourne. Being a lover of seafood, I have visited several of the very best seafood restaurants. Somehow The Lobster Cave competes! Perhaps the fish and shellfish chosen seasonally and a frequently updated menu is the trick? But the service and the food excel and will keep you coming back. This, despite the high prices that any seafood connoisseur should expect, anyhow. My favourite entre is the Tempura Prawn cutlets with wasabi mayo. A little advice though; if you do have a favourite, call ahead and make sure it's in stock. Understandably some dishes are seasonal. About service...The staff seem to look forward to finding ways to make your seafood experience as enjoyable as possible. You should have a reservation!
WHAT A GREAT DINNER EXPERIENCE The very best food in a very nice ambiance made our stay in LOBSTER CAVE an outstanding experience. The service was just great and very friendly and we couldn't have asked for more. We will be back soon to try another dish from the menu...and I don't want to forget to mention the nice background music which was perfectly compiled to make this an unforgettable evening. I have been a regular of the Lobster Cave for many years. It never disappoints. You are guaranteed fabulous fresh seafood and the service is excellent. When we take friends for the first time, they are blown away by the experience. It is definitely worth a visit.
We all decided to have the 6 course seafood meal and whilst the food was excellent we were dissapointed with the size of the courses. We have been there previously and this surprised us, otherwise we had an excellent night.
Have been dining at the Lobster Cave for over four years now and every occasion just keeps on getting better. Absolutely brilliant food and the service always excellent. Recently, my husband and I shared the deluxe Combination platter which consisted of the freshest seafood - two tiers of a variety of hot and cold seafood accompanied with a risotto. This restaurant is brilliant at catering for all budgets as they also have alot of specials during the week - we went back mid week and had the special of surf and turf and for $49.90 is excellent value for money. The Lobster Cave is a true dining experience for all!
What a lovely place to spend Valentines Day. Beautiful food, great romantic corner table and thank you John for the excellent service. The food was delicious even thought there was just a touch too much garlic in the main. Great value and the scallops were cooked to perfection. Cant wait to return.
This was our first visit to Lobster Cave. The decor is beautiful and has a lovely ambience with the fish tanks and little stars on the ceiling. Had the seafood platter which was huge (but also hugely expensive I might add), with also the largest lobster I have ever seen. Everything on the menu is extremely expensive so I would recommend this place for a special occasion only. Great service, and they also allow you to take home any cold items on the platter, which was a nice surprise.
Amazing food! Interestingly enough I had the best steak I have ever been served at this seafood restaurant. Highly recommended.
Definitely not Melbourne's best seafood restaurant. High prices for average food. The menu and variety is limited.
Recently had dinner at the lobster cave and was very disappointed with the food which smelly and very oily. Our waiter was very loud and was busy talking to the other waiters and we had to call for service numerous times. Very expensive and over rated. Will not go there again
