Food wise, the menu is diverse and offers vegetarian and gluten free options! This immediately puts them in the good books. The part which blew me away was their toblerone parfait! wow! amazing presentation topped with gold leaf just to pour on the elegance. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing, no one seemed rushed or out of place. I was comfortable and attended to as much as I would expect to have been. I have not had lunch here but dinner and breakfast have not let me down. Thumbs up all round!   (Edward - March, 2011)

Dinner : Very poor value for money, menu lacked variety , sublety or sophistication, very dated choices and hardly good french cuisine, assseitte of cold charcuterie was ok , fish overcooked and finally creme bulee is creme brulee...... the palce totally lacked atmosphere, perhaps just a quiet night ? . Service was excellent though, knowledgeable and helpful. Good place for breakfast/ brunch I would think though. Wouldn't go back for dinner.   (bon appetit - December, 2010)

Go if it's quiet, if it looks busy don't expect good service though! For an $18 breakfast the bacon was sparse and the toast was about 5mm thick and tough as leather.   (Sousou - May, 2010)

Our first visit - many more expected. An inital error in giving away our pre-booked table was very quickly recitified an a very full restaurant, in a discreet & professional manner. Food was simply amazing, and the service was fantastic - the staff were always smiling, very friendly, very attentive, but never interfering. A wonderful dining experience.   (kaasutii - May, 2010)

I'm sorry to anyone who has had bad service here, I have been several times and it is a destination when ever we travel to Melbourne and it has never been anything but top class. The service has always been attentive without being pushy, and lots of warm smiles from the lovely staff, ready to take your coat on cold nights. Only been there for dinner once, and it was a real experience, we don't have much money, so it is a real event to save up and treat ourselves, normally we just go for breakfast. I really have to recommend the baked eggs, I really have to try this at home, it takes breakfast to a whole new level. And the European hot chocolates are to die for, I have had the thick hot chocolates throughout Europe and these ones are right up there, but I warn you they are really filling and total comfort.   (Sarah - March, 2010)

We went there for brunch on the first morning we flew into Melbourne. It came highly recommended by a friend but it let us down badly. For a start, my food order was totally forgotten. We got an apology for that. When it finally came, after all my companions had finished their meals, the waitress knocked over my husband's coffee as she placed my food on the table - and the coffee went all over my jeans. Luckily, it was no longer hot coffee but it left a very obvious stain. I got a few apologies and I was given a damp napking to wipe away the coffee, my husband was given a fresh cup of coffee, but there was no offer of a complimentary meal and no acknowledgment from management as to what had happened. As we were travelling, this pair of jeans was quite a vital piece of clothing and I had to have it drycleaned - yet another inconvenience. Even then, the coffee stain was slightly visible. It was a really busy time for this cafe when we were there, but that is no excuse for lacklustre service and then a failure to compensate us for the inconvenience. The food and coffee were also very average, especially for Melbourne standards. I won't be going back.   (Perth Foodie - November, 2009)

I wanted to have a coffee on a winter Saturday morning and I was told I would have to sit outside to have a coffee "in case someone else might want to order a meal" despite the fact that there were a number of tables available inside, including a table for one.   (coffee lover - September, 2009)

Top class. All round exsellence except for the background music. Needs French orientation such as some Edith Piaff and Charles Aznavour, sprinkled with some romantic piano accordian or concertina, instead of that 'Thudda thudda boomp boomp, thudda thudda boomp boomp' which was not dissimilar to the 'doof doof' noisy intrusions one hears these days emanating from black hotted up cars with smirking youths behind the wheel, seeking admiring and envious glances.   (Tony Gee - November, 2008)

very slow service. had to ask for menus. took too long to get our entrees. food was good though. probably wouldn't go back as it was pricey considering the weak service.   (February, 2008)

We came from Sydney for a staff weekend away in Melbourne for the Tennis finals. A Melbourne friend recommended Madame Sousou so I booked our staff dinner there. We had a wonderful experience there and my staff are all still raving about how much they enjoyed it. So thank you Madame Sousou for topping off a great weekend. We'll be back for sure!   (MXT - See my reviews (2) - January, 2008)

Great restaurant for a lazy brunch with a beautiful menu for dinner as well. I had french onion soup, mushroom risotto and a chocolate dessert platter, all of which were great. Staff and setting is also lovely.   (jane feil - January, 2008)

worst resturant experience in 10 years in melbourne arrived 8pm entree served 9.20pm.Main course served 10.20, nicoise salad served with rocket, no dressing and macerated cubes of tuna, calamari deep fried to a cinder.

felt nauseous the whole of the next day and partner had diahorreoa, service very amateur, prices reasonably high   (December, 2007)

You would have to be mad not to admit the ambience and food is of high standard. You do pay for what you get....lived in the area all my life and travelled the world a bit of class in our grang neighbourhood never goes a miss. DV..   (access123 - August, 2007)

Very dissapointing, had a shared mixed entre, different, but the main of scallops on a spoon of cauliflower sauce was a discrace! I think they sliced two scallops into paper thin slices and dropped them on the sauce, sprinkled a bit of snow pea green and that was it $17 worth of nothing! I was soooo looking forward to a taste of France but not to be.   (Madam sou sou - July, 2007)
