About Malabar South Indian Cuisine

Malabar South Indian Cuisine opened in 2003. "With MALABAR, we want to bring the most traditional dishes from the Malabar Coast , maintain the classic Indian recipes and enhance the offering with some signature dishes to reflect the changing food trends in contemporary India."

Centrally located in Sydney's exclusive Darlinghurst area, near St. Vincent's Hospitals and the infamous KINGS CROSS, Malabar is a contemporary and modern Indian restaurant with about 70 seats.

Malabar is the finest place to sample the extraordinary regional Indian delicacies, created by Chef Mohammed Sali, with his brigade of master chefs, for a marvellous fusion of tastes. At Malabar, this unique offering will take you, our guest, on a gourmet journey of India's most popular "Spice Trail".

    I've tried loads of Indian restaurants and Malabar is a true favorite. The dosais are delicious, the chicken tikka is succulent, great vindaloo, the okra masala is worth trying for something different. If you like paratha, they make some good 'uns! The only dish I haven't enjoyed here are the lamb shanks rogan josh, but that's because I'm not a massive fan of shanks in the first place - I find them a bit slimy/fatty with an overpowering 'lamby' flavour. But that's just me!

    Everything we've tried from this menu has been delicious, and worth the slight premium on your average curry house. They also impressed with the way they handled a messed up & late order, with prompt apologies, personal service & a complimentary replacement on another occasion. Main room for improvement is delivery time - almost an hour, but at least the text & phone confirmations were accurate

    The best indian to order food from in the area, you pay a little more but you get the quality and the flavour. Don't bother with any other indian restaurant - Malabar is fantastic.

    I received 2 x Kheema Dosai instead of 1 x Kheema and 1 x Bangalore, but besides that the food was very good, albeit a little cold. But that's what microwaves are for, right? I have eaten at this restaurant many times and have always loved the food. I'll keep going back. Goan Fish Curry is to die for.

    Best Indian I've had in Australia. Said an hour and turned up in half that, and the food is AMAZING. Sad there was only one of the gulab jamun, it was so delicious.

    Delicious food! It was our first time to order from there as it was recommended by a friend. The dosai, butter chicken and beef vindaloo all tasty but could of been warmer..the naan bread was cold. Overall very good quality but is more expensive because of this.

      Had dinner here on Thursday. Total of five people, two Indian friends. Love the food, and environment. Their service is excellent! the staff saw what my table needed before we have to ask. Even offered to take photo for our table etc. despite having a full house that night. Food - definitely one of the best Indian restaurant i have tried. and my Indian friends said food were very authentic too. Table reservation highly recommended.

      19 of us went for dinner and had a great time. We had the $35 per head banquet with unlimited amount of main. We were all stuffed by the end and the food quality was good. I would return. Thank you for a great night.

      This is the second time we have been after being referred by a friend. It was just as great as the first. The food flavour and preparation is excellent but slightly more expensive than some other Indian restaurants which are just as tasty. Well worth a visit if you are a fan of Indian food.

      Excellent food, friendly and informed service, clean and attractive decor and prices good considering the quality of food. I would recommend it to everyone. The chef is always available and happy to answer any questions or assist with special requests.

      I found the staff very informative, friendly and attentive. My husband has Coeliac Disease and the waiter was knowledgeable and so was the chef - he even came out to us and had a chat.

      Best Indian cuisine you will find anywhere, let alone Sydney. The $30 banquet is value for money, big time. And you get to sample the best bits on the menu. Chicken Tikka is the best I have ever had!!
