I went there twice over Easter with international friends. On Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday. I am a Burleigh local and know how great the location is. However I was severely disappointed with the service and the food. There was a woman in charge with black hair who took our payment for our meal and was so rushed and rude that I will not go back. Understandably it was a busy day however both my separate guests commented on her rudeness. She really needed to take a break. In addition, the wait staff were vague and generally sad. We waited on drinks both days well after our meal had been finished. The breakfasts were very small especially the eggs with Hollandaise. I am really disappointed that such a beautiful location is simple NOT UP TO PAR.
I can only assume the managers of this restaurant do not care too much about repeat business, and instead rely on passing tourists for their custom. I know that I would certainly never go back if I were a local - the location is fabulous, but the service and value for money are appalling. We had four children with us, and were tersely directed outside by the staff when we entered the restaurant looking for a bit of brunch. The milkshakes we ordered for the kids took about half an hour to arrive, even though it wasn't at all busy, and each of them was simply a bit of topping in the bottom of a small glass with milk poured on top! Our bread and dips platter was delicious, but there was hardly any of it. And because we arrived at about five minutes to twelve, the waitress told us we'd have to wait until the lunch menu started at twelve before the kitchen staff could prepare this dips and bread platter for us (4 bits of toasted turkish bread and some dips scooped into serving dishes - hardly a complicated dish!). All in all, this place was utter rubbish and a bit of a con job on tourists.
Great location, one of the best in Australia, good friendly staff and food served at the right pace. but the portion size on some dishes left you feeling a little ripped off. Example entree size when increased to a main for crumbed prawns simply gave you 2 more prawns for an additional $14.
We chose Oskars for our very special day out, expecting the high standard that they profess to maintain - but which they failed to deliver on the day. Quite apart from the fact the Bugtails inTempura was bland and the pepper sauce for the steak was equally as tasteless, the portion sizes were grossly inadequate - even for small eaters like ourselves. A spend of $150.00 for two snack size meals and one bottle of wine does not represent value for money; one should never have to leave a restaurant still feeling hungry and poorer for the experience. The Multi Award winning chef must have been having either a "day off" or an "öff-day" and certainly NOT a favourite with these two locals.
our special night out really wasn't all that special. We had very high expectations as this restaraunt was supposed to be a truly great dining experience. oysters and rack of lamb were delicious but when you have to carve osso bucco with a steak knife something is very wrong. Creme brulee topping was burnt which gave the dish a bitter taste. for the price would not recommend
Booking 1: - excellant service and response; Booking 2: - I was about 35 minutes early and was informed the chef was about to close but we would be served. The staff advised thet did not know of my booking.
Food was nice but the fish had lost a bit of its texture and for what we paid it looked like some things were missing on the plate. However the view is great and staffs are friendly.
Fantastic: Set-up: like a dream, food- excellent, service: very good. Highly recommendable
:-) brilliant. best food i have ever tasted.
Best service we have ever received from a wait-person - this guy, an Italian named Rosco (??), provided our table of 10 with the best service we have ever experienced in decades of dining around the globe. The place was obviously short on service staff and this man virtually single handed managed a very large group of tables to perfection. Rather than an "over-worked/pushed" attitude, he was so pleasant and professional that it had to be seen to be believed. A fine dining venue should, and will, "grab" him and put him at front of house. He told us he had been in Oz for less than a year without any English language and was originally a "Wine Technician" by profession. At the very least he should be engaged as a trainer in an industry which, on average, needs lot's of training. He was simply amazing!
Dissapointed with deserts, Ambience was excelent, beautiful view, nice music, romantic lighting. Service was very good but a little over attentive, 4 staff for a table of two checking on us every ten minutes was a bit overpowering. otherwise everything was excelent and I would gladly recomend it.
I have eaten at Oskars many times, and always enjoy the place and the food.
Breakfast experience, food was below standard, fantastic location, would go broke if it were not for the view.
Have been here for dinner twice, 2 years apart, and it is consistently great! Great food, great service and what a position!
Loved the food, service was poor, no ambience (too bright inside to see outside to see the ocean and surfers). Probably will not go back as you don't just go there for the food
THE FOOD WAS SECOND TO NONE.. COULD NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT QUALITY. THE ONLY ISSUE WE HAD WAS THERE WAS NO VEGETARIAN OPTIONS AFTER US ASKING PRIOR TO BOOKING DO YOU CATER FOR VEGETARIAN'S???? THE RESPONSE WAS YES. HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT THE CASE.... BUT AS PREVIOUSLY STATED THE FOOD WE ORDERED WAS DEVINE IN QUALITY AND PRESENTATION.
Popped over to Daydream for lunch last week. Have to admit the view at Mermaids is great and matched with the overall ambience of sitting outside in the shade on a blamy day it's just fantastic. Service was average or below, we had to wait for ten minutes for our wine and suspect that it only came then because we asked where it was. We ordered an appetiser of calamari to share, which we emphasised to the waiter, but it came out to the with the mains. When we pointed this out to the person that brought the food out they just shrugged their shoulders. The waiter that took the order did come over and apologise saying it was his fault. Food was just average, we were hoping for some level of fine dinning, but it was very much a lunch time snack menu. The steak sandwich was ok, but the coral trout, even though well coooked was definitely frozen, we had some fresh trout a couple of days later and there was an obvious difference. Overall, on a sunny day, a beautiful spot to have lunch, but don't expect a fine dinning experience - the food and service are just average. And I dread to think what it would be like when it was busy - it was quite quiet when we were there.
This is an iconic establishment & a must if you have overseas visitors. My only problem was the wine ordered had run out -obviously no one had told the wait staff. However an alternative was soon offered & was acceptale.
the venue was good. they had the doors closed due to earlier rain and this spoilt the atmostphere. they also had a problem with the wine chiller and the white wine was warm. this was told to the waitress and she claimed it was to do with the fridge! no other option given. overall, we dined there for a special occasion and it was not as good as I expected.
As it being the first time I have dined at Oscars, I found it a very pleasant experience. The view was breathtaking, the restaurant was charming and well set out with loads of atmosphere. I live in Brisbane and work in a major city hotel, in the concierge department, and would gladly recommend it to anyone coming down to the Gold Coast. Thanks to the staff for the experience.
Very disappointing. Visited on Good Friday 2008, not made to feel welcome as we had our two older children with us. No children's menu available. Waiter deemed to offer fish and chips or steak and chips when we requested one, however as Good Friday this left only one viable alternative which was costed as $20-00 each child for one very small piece of fish and some chips. If they don't want children they should just say so. Waiter did not warm up until we returned (without fuss) my husbands drink which had been presented in a glass with a very large crack down the side. Meals well cooked however not value for money. Very disappointed considering the reviews I had read on this restaurant. We will not be back. Thank goodness for Omeros Brothers at Marina Mirage.
As indicated above every aspect of this dining experience was excellent - the satff, the food, the ambience. This resturant has consistently provided me with a great dining experience for many years and continues to do so. It rates brilliantly for locals and I am proud to take interstate visiors here as a guide to what is on offer on the Gold Coast. Excellent work Oskars team - I am sure you will keep it up!
From Monterey Keys
it was a wonderful dining experience!
Absolutely briiliant!!! 10/10 in every respect. Ambrosia.
Our waiter dropped a couple of our drinks off the tray smashing to the floor, it then took 10-15 minutes to get replacement drinks which surprised me that no other waiter actually assisted promptly to replace our spoilt ones. Some of the beer went over one of my guests and there was no real formal apology or acknowledgement. The food service was very slow arriving at 1:30pm after the debarkle with our drinks our orders were taken 20 minutes later. I think we got our entrees about 30-40 minutes after that. There was even a mix up with what was on offer that day being told that the specials were sold out and then to be told that there were some specials the other items we ordered off the menu were sold out. The majority of us had the fresh prawns and only 2 others had hot entrees which surprised me on why it took so long (maybe they had to run out and buy some more prawns!). The waiter actually made a joke about himself being "manuel" out of the tv series "Faulty Towers" referring to the comedy of errors. The view was spectacular as always but the slow service was disappointing. The food was okay I have had much better at this restaurant in the past. The restaurant was not busy there were only a few other tables on the day. The price of food is not cheap and doesn't match the level of service I would have expected that day. Our waiter seemed to be in a real state of bother the whole afternoon.
I have always enjoyed dining at Oskars and it has been worth the trip from Brisbane but it now falls short of the mark. I went for lunch on saturday and the service was very average and food not up to the usual standard. The view didn't compensate and I won;t bother to travel when there;s better food to be had in brisbane.
Had dinner at Mermaids last week, it was very busy but the service was still very good and extremely friendly. The food was great, especially dessert...wow! The night we went was a beatiful warm still night so the view up the beach was amazing. Overall we had great evening in a beatiful casual beach side setting, we will be going back again soon!
They were very obliging as we changed numbers of diners & then had to wait for an interstate guest to arrive on a delayed fight. One disapointment was that even tho' i had communicated that we were celebrating a special occasion, no mention was made of it. THOROUGHLY recommend everyone tries the Oyster shots!
We have eaten at Oskars a couple of times now. The location is sensational. The menu is diverse and we understand it is changed regularly. Service on one occassion was a little patchy, but they had a large group arrive and were probably distracted. The desserts are particularly spectacular - highly recommend the raspberry souffle!
