"A very disappointing experience. The oysters Kilpatrick were in BBQ sauce! You can't change a classic like that and still keep its usual title. One oyster also had a piece of glass in it the size of a small pea! My order for confit of duck was delivered - as breast of duck! A very old fashioned down to earth service excellent food ambience and heart to heart service would highly recommend (Jean Courbert - September, 2009) Overall 4.3 - Food 3, Ambience 6, Value 4, Service 4
A very disappointing experience. The oysters Kilpatrick were in BBQ sauce! You can't change a classic like that and still keep its usual title. One oyster also had a piece of glass in it the size of a small pea! My order for confit of duck was delivered - as breast of duck! I had to wave like a person drowning to get some attention as we had been put in a tiny corridor-like area at the end of the room along the window. Apparently the waiter did not know there were two duck dishes on the menu. The manager promised to give us free desserts and coffee to make up for the mistake. By the time my correct main was delivered my husband had eaten two courses - I was only planning to have a main, so I was starving. My confit was to be with white beans, bacon and spicy sausage - sounded like cassoulet to me - so that's what I was expecting. Well the confit was barely cooked, the beans were hard, and the sausage was almost non-existent. But the horror of it all was that it was swimming in - you guessed it - BBQ sauce! This should have been explained on the menu and then I wouldn't have ordered it. It was excessively salty and unpleasant - but I couldn't send this one back too. I couldn't finish it, so I was now looking forward to dessert. We both ordered rhubarb and berry crumble with King Island cream. The presentation was cute - and tiny. Two small pots the size of a dessert spoon had a compote of fruit masked with custard, while the third pot had a runny, creamy sustance sprinkled with pistachio nuts - certainly not the thick cream I was expecting. There were two pieces of hard pistachio biscuit on the side. Nowhere was the crumble mentioned on the menu. But it was a freebie, so what can you do. It doesn't stop the disappointment though - what goes on the menu should go on the plate and vice versa. I think the chef should read his menu and revise the wording or the cooking. weren't asked how we wanted the meat cooked-was a bit rare-not a regular eater of red meat so would have preferred meat to be cooked more on the well done side.everything else was great, even got a window seat as we had asked for. Our party was seeking an evening of fine dining and selected Parkside looking forward to a 5 star experience. The food was lovely and the service probably as good as possible given the distracting ambiance. The number of patrons attending the bar far exceed its' capacity and the overflow gathered at the entrance to the restaurant. With no physical barrier in place, the restaurant ambience was that of a pub. Waiters were unable to hear our requests and several of our orders were missed as a result. In order to converse at the table we resorted to shouting at each other. We will not be returning to Parkside. (September, 2008) Overall 7 - Food 7, Ambience 7, Value 7, Service 7
