"The seafood platter was pretty poor to my standards, serving a seafood platter with a big bowl of chips (filler) is something i would expect from the local pub, a big price to pay for chips! The beer! They had this great menu of beer you could get, just not that night, they had run out of over 3/4 of their beer styles and only had the cheap gut rot stuff left. I assumed this was a great restau.."
"We had the (fresh) seafood platter for two, it was presented well and served promptly. However the bugs and crabs were not fresh - they were frozen and the meat inside was mushy, watery and tasteless. The best part of the platter was the fruit! Credit for the prawns and the fish which were good - the rest shouldn't have left the kitchen. Response from staff was not considerate of our concerns..." more reviews

The seafood platter was pretty poor to my standards, serving a seafood platter with a big bowl of chips (filler) is something i would expect from the local pub, a big price to pay for chips! Overall 4.8 - Food 4, Ambience 7, Value 3, Service 5

I had the best calamari ever !!! and my husband loved the sea food platter. Hopefully will be back for a holiday again and we won't miss Rock Lobster :) ... Overall 3.5 - Food 4, Ambience 3, Value 3, Service 4
My partner and I didn't have a reservation aand although it is advised that bookings are recommended, as a result, we were made to feel unwelcome. The weather was not the best during our experience and we were given no option but to be seated alfresco. Throughout the dining experience, the service was rushed. At the time the restaurant was somewhat busy and it seemed as though the Rock Lobster was trying to turnover clientele. The presentation and quality of food was left to be desired. Food did not meet expectation. For example, the salt & pepper calamari (entree) did not have any salt or pepper flavour as one would expect. Meat ordered for mains (both lamb & beef) were requested medium, but were under-done. Minor things to note (but are important, nonetheless), glasses that accompanied our wine/s were not matching and a few downlights within the establishment were broken/blown. Overall, it was felt that experience was below expectation, given the reviews we had read about the restaurant and food was overpriced having been dealt the quality we had been given. Dissapointed. The entree (coconut prawns) and dessert (choc souffle)were a delight. The mixed seafood grill as a main meal was ordinary. The swordfish was tough and had no flavour whatsoever. A very bad choice of fish if u can't cook it properly and chef chooses to add no flavour. The 2 prawns and 2 scallops in the shell on the plate only had their natural taste which can delight the palate to some degree. For $30 this dish was certainly a disappointment. The Tasmanian salmon was, on the other hand, superb and i was sorry i ordered this for my husband and not myself. (Catherine - November, 2008) Overall 6.8 - Food 6, Ambience 8, Value 5, Service 8
The starters were delicious but my main was undercooked and did not have much flavour. Overall 7 - Food 7, Ambience 6, Value 6, Service 9
Average restaurant. Not really sure what all the hype is about with previous reviews. Although I must admit that the service was exceptional. (May, 2008) Overall 7.8 - Food 9, Ambience 8, Value 7, Service 7
The food was excellent. Lobster could be a bit cheaper but maybe it was because of the Easter weekend. Service was good, friendly but not annoying. (March, 2008) Overall 9 - Food 9, Ambience 10, Value 7, Service 10
We had a wonderful night. The staff went out of their way to ensure we were very well looked after. The food was fresh and of a high quality, if a little expensive, which we were prepared to overlook as the service was impeccable. My wife and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at the Rock Lobster, the service and the food was excellent, my wife has allergies, and they catered for them perfectly. The seafood was fresh and my steak was awesome, we will be back! (February, 2008) |
