    Surrounded by glass, Sails on the bay is a Melbourne restaurant which sits one metre from the golden sands of Elwood Beach making the bay your dining canvas.The sun sets right outside our windows, sparkling on the waters of Port Phillip Bay. The view is uninterrupted and on any given day you can view a cruise liner sailing across the bay, a wind surfer or at night the flickering lights of the West Gate bridge sparkle in the distance. With a location so close to the beach you can almost touch the sand. It's the perfect place to dine, host a wedding, a corporate event or small party.

    Sensational view over the beach. Food was very good as well. I had a steak for main and a very nice salmon salad for entree.

      I recently dined at Sails on the bay and found it to be a wonderful dinning experience, our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and the great view was the icing on the cake. Thank you Sails team for make my last birthday a memorable one   (d - September, 2009)

      Trying to be objective is hard when discussing a restaurant as each experience is so individual but I feel Jet is being unkind when complaining he was advised about parking as I was so relieved I hadn't seen that one had to pay - subjective/objective. The staff were warm and professional, costs were right - it was a beautiful stormy night with the bay being shown by flashes of lightening. Overall this is a special venue I would happily return to. Thank you Sails for helping me NOT get a parking fine :)   (KT - July, 2009)

      If or when this restaurant fails it will be the fault of it's staff who seem distracted and uninterested in the important role they play. The food is overpriced and average but the view makes up for this. We were lucky to have a lovely view of the bay.   (Foodie - May, 2009)

      After being abruptly advised by staff that Restaurant Parking had to be paid for or we would be booked we entered the Restaurant passing a local derelict person sleeping on the steps. What a wonderful welcome.

      Food service was very slow and portions tasty but extremely small. Staff were not particularly polite and only seemed to hurry when refilling our glasses.

      From where we were seated it was very difficult to see the Bay.

      This restaurant has been around for a very long time - and this shows itself in the complete professionalism shown by all the friendly staff. I have dined here every year on birthdays and anniversaries and happy to say it just gets better and better - the view is always the same.....stunning!   (KIRSTY - July, 2008)

    Chefs

    Derek Fuller - Chef / owner. Classically trained at The Savoy and The Connaught in London. Executive Chef in five star London Hotel prior to arriving in Australia in the early 90's. Worked at Petit Choux and then opened Sails on the bay in 1994.

  • Large Groups Information

    There are 3 different option for group bookings within our venue:

    OPTION ONE:

    Private Dining Room - separate private space with room to move and talk as loud and colourfully as necessary.

    maximum of 40 people seated

    small party menus apply - beverages on consumption.

    $ 1800 minimum spend up to 20 guests/3500 minimum spend up to 40 guests

    Deposit of $ 450/875 to secure room

    OPTION TWO:

    Restaurant - Seated with other guests, may have guests at table next to you.

    maximum of 45 people seated for a group booking

    small party menus apply - beverages on consumption

    No minimum spend - just pay for what is consumed

    10% deposit to secure booking

    OPTION THREE:

    Café Terrace – private space – fully enclosed area, which has the capacity to remove awnings

    Separate area to the restaurant. Your guests will have the exclusive use of this area

    maximum of 50 people seated, 80 people stand up

    Only available for hire in the evenings (see times in the attached brochure)

    set menus apply or a sit down event

    Beverages packages apply as there is no cash bar facility

    Minimum spend $1000

    Deposit of $250 to secure room

    No entertainment possible due to the closeness to the main dining room (CD's can be played as background)

    Larger events can be accommodated in our event room.

    Group booking policy Parties of 10 & over in the restaurant are on a set menu.

    A deposit is required in order to secure a booking and will be deducted from your final account.

    Group cancellation policy All cancellations must be received in writing with more than 7 days notice the cancellation fee will be 50% of the held deposit. Within 7 days notice of the reservation the cancellation fee will be the total deposit held.
