Tetsuya's Restaurant

  My girlfriend and I ate at Tetsuya's last Wednesday (22.6.11) night and although we were so looking forward to the evening we left rather disappointed.

  Most dishes were over cooked and dry to the point where after one mouthful, what remained stayed on the plate.

  This was the case for every dish except for two, the sashimi and Tetsuya's signature dish, they were really lovely and melted in your mouth.

  The waiting staff did not seem to have extensive knowledge of the produce, one stating a dish to contain lobster and when I asked where the lobster was from, he couldn't tell me and then came back to the table to say the dish contained WA Crayfish. I don't think anyone would mind if they were being served WA Crayfish, it is a beautiful local produce from Australia.

  Unfortunately the cooking of this dish was disastrous, we left the dry piece of Crayfish on our plates and at no stage did anyone wonder why we were leaving our food.

  The cost of our evening was the most I've paid at a restaurant Sydney.

  We were expecting a restaurant with ambiance, intimacy and were expecting nothing but the best from the food and wine, we have such high respect for Tetsuya as a Chef.

  The wine served with the meals was very generous although some did not seem to compliment the dishes, rather they challenged the dishes and competed for the same spot on our pallet.

  This post is not meant to be totally critical, we were so excited about going to Tetsuya's especially after reading the other comments, unfortunately our expectations were too high although my back pocket is now $628 less healthy.   (foodie - June, 2011)

  My family culinary experience at Tetsuya's by far exceeded all previous dining episodes. Our tastebuds were excited beyond expectation & the service was faultless. At times found it a bit hard to hear the food and wine descriptions due to the noise of the other diners in the room....but all in all a great experience.   (Lawrence Cook - April, 2010)

  Great concept! Ingenious Cuisine! Very good restaurant... Only for special occasions! But I assure you, Special it will be!

  Food is as close to perfection as I've experienced in any fine restaurant in the World. Balanced/harmonious combinations of flavours from Japan and Australia. Freshness of ingredients paramount and obvious. Wine service gracious and affordable. Food service impeccable, with both timing and descriptions "a point". Tetsuya is the perfect host ensuring discretion but also attentive visits to many tables to ensure diners are always happy towards the end of their experience.

  I've dined twice in Kent Street and twice in Roselle... every experience has been slightly more refined than the previous.

  For a special occasion - i thought a special restaurant

  The food was delicate and delish with excellent presentation (although the petits fours contradicted this - lacking depth of flavour) - overall food was good but not spectacular.

  Service was also good but rote like with the same message repeated from table to table - maybe even a bit sterile

  My greatest disappointment was the wine (non) match - with all wines too dominate for all the delicate nosh.

  Just Divine, food will not taste the same after this unique experience, a must. The service was exceptional, professional, the staff went out of their way to explain and even humor us, always felt welcome. I think experience was heightened as we had a private room, with comfy lounge chairs, a plus for a 4 and a half hour sitting. It did seem crowded in the other sections and can detract from the experience, so book early, go with a large group and get a private room with good food and company.   (tetsuya joy - September, 2009)

  This was a dining experience! No menu but each dish is explained as it is brought to the table. Food allergies and dietary requirements are catered for. I think we got to 14 courses the night we went and each was great even though there were a few things that I wouldn't normally eat. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgable.   Just amazing! The food is an absolute experience. Tetsuya's ocean trout signature dish is mind blowing! We barely saw the same waiter twice for whole meal. There were just so many staff members on hand the instant you needed anything.   I have eaten at lots of Sydney's fine dining restaurants, but this is by far the best overall. The fusion of food, the quality, the presentation, the service, the ambience it was all way above average, it was indeeed exceptional. I was pregnant at the time of going and was sure that I would struggle as many restaurants don't like to cater for alterations to the menu. They were amazing, made me feel like it was absolutely not a problem to accommodate the dietary requirements I had, now that makes an excellent restaurant.   (Melina Wilkins - January, 2007)

  Tetsuya's is very very good restaurant. This is actually what other restaurant should be, except the price. Always immaculate service, beautiful food and wine, nice ambience.
