  • Well known and respected Hobart Restaurateur john Caire first opened The Astor Grill in 1978. In I980 Tony and jan Francis opened a popular and successful cocktail bar in the left hand side dining room.

We had excellent meals, well presented in the Old World ambience with well mannered staff - the latter lacking in so many of today's restaurants. Not quite 'yester-years' prices, but 'yester-years' service and attention to the whole experience, not just the food.   (Peter of Hobart - September, 2009)

      We couldn't fault our experience at the Astor Grill recently. Generous servings of beautiful dishes - the crayfish pate with croissant toast and the veal marsala were highlights. We went for a special occasion and we were not disappointed.   (CJ - See my reviews (64) - March, 2009)

      It was our second time since the new owner taken over first time wonderful second time I went there to celeibrate a birthday not great seating. And the food was not anywere as good as the first time. dissapointing   (lisa logan - October, 2008)

      Small restaurant, good service, food is not overly filling i.e. small meal on slightly bigger plate, cost was high given quality of food. Would not go to again if wanted value for money.   (Laddie84 - See my reviews (2) - June, 2008)
