The Peasants Feast started life as a restaurant devoted to country style food (provincial European and modern Australian), its tapestry and farm decorations emphasizing its rustic home away from home atmosphere. Over the years it has developed an established reputation renown for its superb tastes, varied and creative original dishes and friendly service with its own distinctive Newtown character. For the loyal regulars who know and love it well, its their secret country retreat located in the heart of Australia's busiest city, serving te greatest tasting food in all of Sydney. Then along came a new owner, Dr. Robert Warlow, a Clinical Immunologist, Allergist, Immunopathologist and Medical Researcher, who knew and loved the restaurant well. From his many years in medical research, he had concluded that "What you put in your mouth determines whether you stay healthy or become ill and how long you live. You can't change your genes but you can change your eating habits to avoid diseases. YOU TRULY ARE WHAT YOU EAT!!!".

Overall 1.8 - Food 3, Ambience 1, Value 2, Service 1

I would not recommend this restaurant to vegetarians or meat eaters because it misses the mark for both... Service was extremely slow. The restaurant was filled to over capacity...in fact my friend had to move 4 times during her meal to let people pass her chair. I would have liked to promote this restaurant because it does offer vegan and organic meals ... which is rare in Sydney but I just cannot because it is not enough to simply offer those meals... you have to deliver taste, service and ambience as well.   (August, 2008)

Overall 5.3 - Food 5, Ambience 7, Value 6, Service 3

I felt this restaurant was very over rated. Our service was terrible (waiter made several mistakes with our orders and it took forever to get a water bottle refilled... and then the one that arrived was frozen solid so could not be poured!) I had the Beef Hot Pot but left most of it as the beef was extremely tough - not at all what I expected. Most of our group of 10 were disappointed with the food. Would not go back.   (pj - See my reviews (5) - August, 2008)

Overall 8.5 - Food 10, Ambience 8, Value 8, Service 8

The food tasted great. We really enjoyed the food provided. The waiters/waitresses were somewhat naive to the menu and, hence, the service lacked the spark. On arrival a table had not been reserved for us despite having our names on the list of reservations. A few minutes were spent organizing a table for two.

We would be happy to go back.

The owner was very pleasant and attended to us, personally. This came about after questioning the waiter as to whether we were entitled to a free dessert as advised on Menulog The owner came to our table to approve this offer.   (July, 2008)

Overall 8 - Food 10, Ambience 8, Value 8, Service 6

Food was fantastic - choosing from the extensive menu was the hardest part and nobody was dissappointed with their selection. However on arrival it seemed they didn't have our reservation and then took some time to set up a suitable table with chairs, glassware etc. Service was also a bit slow & haphazard. Despite the hiccups we'll definitely be going back.   (KC - See my reviews (2) - June, 2008)

Overall 7.3 - Food 8, Ambience 7, Value 7, Service 7

Nice food, satisfying portions. Service was average, but friendly. Place a bit dark, but I suppose that's goes with the Peasant theme.   (See my reviews (2) - May, 2008)

Good food. A bit noisy. Will go again.   (November, 2007)

Overall 7 - Food 7, Ambience 7, Value 7, Service 7

Recently dined there on a Saturday night. Pleasant atmosphere with an excellent range of meals. The tapas for entree I totally recommend. I do not like pork but the little organic pork sausages were devine. I had the fish special and although quite pleasant in presentation and taste it were slightly undercooked. My partner had the Duck and it was disappointing as the skin was presented with a crispy highly fatty texture which covered the whole 1/4 size serving which is not edible. Good to experience an organic restaurant and the owner is very friendly and the Chef is an allergist so you can trust your eating quality food. We will be back but the two small tables at the front of the restaurant are far too small to accommodate the plates.   (JayDee - September, 2007)

The Peasant's Feast was excellent, we were a large group (of uncertain numbers) and the restaurant was happy to oblige the food was exceptional and the staff very cheery. I can highly recommend this little gem!   (June, 2007)

Overall 8.3 - Food 9, Ambience 9, Value 7, Service 8

This is our 'special occaisions' restaurant - it may be a little expensive compared to other restaurants in King St, but the food is wonderful!   (Dani - January, 2007)

"Provincial European Cuisine with an organic edge and a kangaroo hopping around the top paddock. At prices that peasants can afford, feast on one of Sydney's essential dining experiences, The Peasants Feast, 121 a King St Newtown. This is organic and vegetarian and comes spattered with organic olive oil like a Pollock."

"How does it feel to enjoy every exquisite nuance of the delightful meal in front of you, knowing that with each bite you are defying the push towards overprocessed, genetically modified pesticide-laden foods. Well, it feels good. Dr Robert Warlow bought The Peasants Feast in King St, Newtown, last September and has turned the place around with his passion for whole, organic foods. And diners can rest assured, knowing all kitchen scraps are going to feed a local permaculture garden."

N/A, Inner West Courier - February 2007
“The Peasants Feast Restaurant” in Newtown is the best places to stop for a meal. The food is generally superb, simple, plentiful and cheap...The blackboard menu is a delight to read and the food surpasses all expectations...Desserts and cheeses were excellent and value for money was exceptional. The restaurant is BYO and if you like French Provincial food, a 'must visit'."

Franz Scheurer, Australian Gourmet Page - January 2006
"Weary tastebuds will rejoice at the flavour renaissance to be had at rustic eatery the Peasant's Feast. A wholly organic menu harks back to a time...Seasonal produce is transformed into tasty comfort food...which you 'll find, free of charge. BYO is available and the large banquen room upstairs has been the site of many a feast."
