      Dear Stokehouse manager

We would like to provide you with feedback after our experience dining at Stokehouse upstairs on Friday 9 April.

While we are not regulars, we live nearby and the restaurant is one of our favourite special occasion places to eat. There has much publicity about your recent approach and new management, and I hope you will take our feedback in the constructive way it is intended.

Previously, the service has been excellent, no matter how busy the restaurant was. It was clear who was in charge, and who was serving us. This time we were served by at least 4 different staff, one who forgot our wine order. While everyone was very friendly and helpful, the problems with service and co-ordination suggest a systemic problem with how staff management is undertaken. This is in no way a reflection on the individuals who served us and I trust it will not be taken as such.

Three of our party were vegetarian. While there were vegetarian choices in the entrees, there was no vegetarian main or special. Previously, we had no trouble with a good selection of vegetarian choices across the menu.

We found the restaurant was so dimly lit that we had to use our mobile phones to read the menus. It was impossible to see what we were eating, though the food was as always very good.

It is difficult to see how your very marked increase in prices can be justified in a service approach which is at best sloppy and at worst unprofessional, for a restaurant which has one hat.

Cheers   (Alex Simonski - April, 2010)

It used to be a fantastic place with great tasing food, orientation and excellent service. Went there on 7 March 2009, for lunch, services just like a chinese restuarant acted as silver service class. Don't mind to pay the prices but services need to be improved.   (Suchada Limlawan - March, 2009)

The stokehouse is a great location, busy and good service. The portions were small for mains so the value wasn't the greatest but for a spot by the beach with a good crowd its a great spot.   (See my reviews (3) - December, 2008)

Fantastic food, great service, bit more pricy than i'm used to but for a special occasion well worth it. We both left more than satisfied. The deserts are a must, loved it.   (Marcin - See my reviews (2) - November, 2008)

We dined recently and were not really impressed. Your prices far exceed what your actually offer. We dined at the middle Brighton baths, whilst John lepp was still head chef and found the experience, and food far superior.   (February, 2008)

We had a very nice lunch at the Stokehouse and would recommend the restaurant. We made a booking three weeks beforehand and asked for a table with a view and we didn't get one, but it was very nice all the same.   (See my reviews (3) - November, 2007)

If you want to dine in a wonderful atmosphere in a great location, with attentive & friendly staff try The Stokehouse. The menu is tantilising to the tastebuds so it is difficult to know what to select. All the meals were divine - the desserts were sensational. I can't wait to return.   (July, 2007)
