Orizuro
- Victoria Docks, Hobart TASOverall 1.8 - Food 1, Ambience 4, Value 1, Service 1
Having long loved this gem of a place, my heart was broken on my last outing here. The newly renovated space has lost all its former intimacy and warmth. I took two friends and we were the only patrons. The service was curt and neglectful. The new menu had comparatively very few items to choose from and our order took more than 30 minutes to arrive at our awkwardly placed table. Most devastating of all, my meal - a large bowl of dry, tepid, stodgy rice - was topped with a handful of the nasty, muddy offcuts of fish that any self-respecting chef would use only for stock. I hope to hear that someone has a better experience with the new Orizuru or I may never go back. (arabella - November, 2010)

- 155 Liverpool st, Hobart TASOverall 8.3 - Food 8, Ambience 8, Value 8, Service 9
Fast, delicious, fresh and authentic. A relaxing place to stop in for lunch or take-away. The menu is simple, focussed on quality, prepared with care and attention. Best nori rolls and miso soup in the city. (arabella - November, 2010)

Flathead
- 4 Cascade rd, South Hobart TASOverall 9.5 - Food 10, Ambience 9, Value 10, Service 9
Fantastic fish and seafood whether you dine in or takeaway. A great place for small quite dinners, or a party in the private room. They do gluten-free fish and chips to perfection but be aware that you can't just turn up and order that on the spot (which is a pity); they require 24 - 48 hours notice. I did find the lights in the front dining room a little too bright where I was sitting one night - quite blinding in fact - but otherwise a really wonderful night out. (arabella - November, 2010)

The Cupping Room
- 105 Murray st, Hobart TASOverall 8.8 - Food 8, Ambience 8, Value 9, Service 10
Here, it's all about the coffee which they take very seriously; they roast their own premium and fairtrade beans. Try a piccolo espresso from The Slayer, their $20,000 coffee machine - it's unbelievably good. The cafe is unpretentious, large and inviting and is a great space to meet friends or business associates. In all my many visits here, the service has been friendly and faultless. Fish Frenzy - Hobart
- Elizabeth Street pier, Hobart TASOverall 8.5 - Food 10, Ambience 7, Value 8, Service 9
The grilled blue-eye and salad here are fresh and fantastic, as are the chunky chips served in brown paper cones. The service is super-fast once you've placed your order. This place is popular and queues at the counter are sometimes very long but your patience will be rewarded. The decor is sea shack style and family friendly - not posh - but they have a good wine list, and sitting outside on the docks surrounded by boats is a fabulous experience in summer. If you prefer take-away, they pack it sensibly so it still tastes great when you get it home. Go there and see why it's been said they do "Arguably the best fish & chips in Australia…" (arabella - November, 2010)

Royal Thai Restaurant
- 201 Elizabeth st, North Hobart TASOverall 9.5 - Food 10, Ambience 8, Value 10, Service 10
The food at Royal Thai is exceptional. I'm fortunate to live nearby and my family and I enjoy take-away from here at least once a week. The dishes are always cooked fresh and are ready to go within minutes. The flavours are wonderful, portions generous, and take-away prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is consistently sparkling clean, and the service is with a smile every time. We think it's the best Thai in town. Nov 2010 (arabella - November, 2010)
