Coach and Horses Hotel
- 147 Avoca st, Randwick NSWOverall 6.5 - Food 8, Ambience 7, Value 4, Service 7
I visited the Coach and Horses pub for my work Christmas get together and this location was chosen as it was close by as everyone worked within the Randwick area.
The pub itself was very pleasant, it has two sections upstairs and downstairs with a bars and lounge area and outside seating area upstairs, there is also a pool table upstairs if you are inclined, there is a seperate poker machine area downstairs and another bar and the bistro area which are very close and all areas are easily accessed.
Our group ordered a meal from the bistro and everyone appeared satisfied with the size and pricing of the meal, I have a steak sandwich which was served on damper bread with beetroot, tomato and caramilsed onion and I added cheese as an extra and this was only $14.00 very reasonable.
Our group chose to stay in the bistro seating area and this was very relaxing and an inviting atmosphere, there was a breeze so it was not to hot.
The only surprise that I had and it was a little bit of a shock was the cost of the drinks 'for a pub" I felt that they were extremley expensive....
Soft drink was $3.50 spirits drinks range from $5.50 up, I paid for one round for Christmas for six drinks which included two beers, three spirits and one diet coke and the grand total came to $38.00 a bit pricey really.... This would be the only reason I would think twice about returning there but as I am now aware I could budget accordingly. (Donna - December, 2012)

Isabella's Italian & Seafood Restaurant
- 183 Alison rd, Randwick NSWOverall 7 - Food 9, Ambience 5, Value 8, Service 6
I went to this restaurant on Friday 9th November for a friends birthday dinner we had a group of about 4 so we were seated towards the back of the restaurant (very close to the kitchen), the made our seating very hot as we were in a corner section and close to where the waiters were bring dishes and out.
The tables were bare no tablecloths just small square wooden tables which seat two so we had quite a few joined togethr for our group. I noticed that not every seat had a bread and butter plate but each had cutlery and a napkin set.
We were given bottles of water for each table with very very small glasses, this restaurant is totally BYO it does not have a liquor licence at all and sells only soft drinks and coffee.
The menu prices were very resonable all mains whether seafood, steak, chicken were all $13.50 pasta was $10.50, desserts range around the $12.00 and coffe $5.00.
Everyone in the group ordered something different and everyone appeared quite satisfied with both the portion size and the taste of their meal.
If I had to make a complaint it is minor and only that my well done steak was not completely cooked right to the centre, however by the time I reach the "pink" section of the steak I was full so it was just left.
The total bill for thirteen people was very reasonable and as we paid for the birthday guest a total cost of $30.00 by everyone covered all main meals, as well as any dessets, coffees, soft drinks and garlic bread that were had.
Overall I would probably enjoy going back to this restaurant for another dinner.
Finally there is only one bathroom this for ALL guests to use and to access this you need to walk down a very narrow passage within the restaurant to the outside of the building to find the bathroom, this little passage also has "secluded" tables which would be suited to couples who want some privacy. Hingara Chinese Restaurant
- 82 Dixon st, Haymarket NSWOverall 5.5 - Food 7, Ambience 6, Value 5, Service 4
I visited Hingara Chinese restaurant on Wednesday 1st February before attending a show at the Capitol theatre.
When eating in Chinatown I generally just stroll till I find a restaurant that appeals to me. As a friend that was with me had been to this restaurant some time ago and recommended it we gave it a try.
We dine al fresco even though it was overcast with showers, there was enough roof coverage so my party of three did not get wet. There was also a lot of outside seating and choice of where to sit.
We order our food and it was promptly cooked and delivered. The total cost of the meal for three was $96.00. which worked out to roughly $32.00 per person quite reasonable.
The dishes that we tried were chicken and cashew nuts, sweet and sour pork, a fried rice and my mother chose to order a singapore noodles which apparently was very nice and had beef, chicken and quite a large variety of vegetables based on noodles.
The service was non intrusive and we were not rushed. The only fault that I found and it is very minor was that I needed to ask for Soy sauce and it was then only a teaspoon in a small sauce "bowl". I needed to ask to have this refilled twice.
ALtough this would not stop me from eating at this restaurant again.
Overall I would recommend this place for a relaxing meal. (Donna - February, 2012)

Skara Bar
- 29 St Pauls st, Randwick NSWOverall 9 - Food 10, Ambience 8, Value 9, Service 9
I have visited this restaurant twice after going to the movies at The Ritz in Randwick. I was there on Wednesday 27.4.11
This isplace is very central to everything in the spot especially the cinema, the extended hours make it a great place for pre or post movie lunch or snacks. ( most restaurants close around 2pm and reopen later in the evening not this one.)
The burgers and steak sandwiches are absolutely delicious this time I had a steak sandwich with salad and chips on the side - The chips were to die for absolutely incredible so delicious!!!!!
My friend had a deluxe burger there was so much on it but he managed to force himself, he just could not leave it, and there were also chips as a side .
Both of these meals were $10.00 quite a cheap meal really.
I would recommend this place to anyone who would like an awesome steak sandwich or burger - they do sell other food but I have not tried any yet.....
Oh and for a laugh they sell PINK lemondae.....
Our total bill including coffee and lemonade with the meals came to 25.00 great value (Donna - April, 2011)

Pyrmont Bridge Hotel
- 96 Union st, Pyrmont NSWOverall 3.5 - Food 5, Ambience 4, Value 4, Service 1
I visited here on Sunday 13th June prior to seeing Cats at the Lyric Theatre .
My companion and I arrived at 1pm with plenty of time to have a relaxed lunch.. We were wrong... We ordered and paid for our meal at the bar as requested, the menu could not be altered , if a modification was made a surcharge was added to the price of the meal.
After waiting fifty minutes for our meal my companion went to enquire about our meal he was then told that there was a TWENTY FIVE MINUTE WAITING time because there was a private function on downstairs. Even so our meal was thirty minutes overdue.
A supervisor came to speak to us we were offered a free drink. My companion again asked exactly where our meal was, we were told it would be ready in ten minutes.
I said this was not acceptable we ordered our meal one hour ago and needed to leave within fifteen minutes as we had tickets to a show. To make things worse the people at the next table who arrived and ordered after we did received their meal before us.
When we complained the supervisor refunded the money for the two entrees.
FINALLY AT 2.15PM our meal arrived.. The calamari entree was very nice but the chicken schnitzel was a bit tough.
WHATEVER YOU DO , DON'T GO TO THIS PUB.....FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO EAT. (Donna - July, 2010)

Pyrmont Bridge Hotel

I went to the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel on Sunday 13th June before I went to see Cats at The Lyric Theatre in Star City commencing at 3pm, I will NEVER go to this pub again.
Firstly my friend and I arrived at 1pm with what we thought was plenty of time to have a relaxing lunch and then stroll down to Star City to see the show, How mistaken we were.
When we arrived at the pub we were told to go upstairs and the bistro was to the left, there was only a bar there. This was where we needed to order our food, there was no modifications allowed to the menu so you could not request to have vegetables in place of chips even though the same vegetables were served with another dish.
After fifty minutes my companion went to enquire about our meal and he was told that there was a twenty five minute wait as there was a private function on downstairs !!! WHY WERE WE NOT TOLD THIS WHEN ORDERING..
We were then told the food was on its way , a supervisor then came and offered us a complimentary drink each and said that the food would be up within ten minutes I then asked was this just the entree or both entree and main meal to which I was told both.
To top this off the people at the next table who CAME AFTER US, received their meal first. When then complained we were given a refund for the two entrees we ordered.
This was all well but we still had no food and I believe the only reason we received our food when we did was because I said we had tickets to a show and needed to leave at 2.15pm.
We received our lunch at 2.10pm a total of over an hour since we originally ordered and well over the twenty five minute wait.
The only compensations was the calamari was delicious, the schnitzel was average.
Here's a thought if they could not cope CLOSE THE BISTRO OR EMPLOY MORE STAFF.
Neither my companion nor I will go to this pub again. I have never written such a scathing revue but this was absolutely inexcusable. (Donna - June, 2010)

Pyrmont Bridge Hotel
- 96 Union st, Pyrmont NSWOverall 4.3 - Food 5, Ambience 5, Value 6, Service 1
I went to this hotel on Sunday prior to the commencement of the 3pm show for Cats at the Lyric theatre.
My companion and I were at the hotel by 1pm to allow enough time for a leisurely lunch and to then walk to star city which is only about ten minutes away.
We ordered and paid for our meal which consisted of Calamari and Chicken Schnitzel both of which WHEN they arrived was very nice.
At 1.50pm we made an enquirie on where and more importanly how much longer our food was going to be .
We were then told there was a private function on and there was a thirty minute wait on all food - Oops it slipped the staffs mind to tell us,,,,,,We could have at least had the choice to stay or go somewhere else.....While my friend was making the enquirie regarding our meal the people seated next to us who came and order AFTER US received their meal.
Needless to say this made my companion and I very upset as by now it was almost two oclock with still not food in sight.
A supervisor came to speak with us and as compensation offered us a free drink, When when we said that we had tickets to a show and that we needed to leave within fifteen minutes so unless the food could be delivered in the next five minutes we wanted a complete refund and would leave, a refund of the fourteen dollars for the two entrees then appeared..
Our food arrived about 2.15pm so we need to rush to make the show on time.
This is the first and last time I will visit the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel and although the Calamari was delicious and the Chicken Schnitzel reasonable we will NOT ever eat here again as the time frame was just to long to wait.
It would have made more sense to hire extra staff. (Donna - June, 2010)

Capanno Italian Restaurant
- 1122 Botany rd, Botany NSWOverall 9.5 - Food 10, Ambience 9, Value 9, Service 10
I took my mother to this restaurant today 15.10.09 for her birthday, Although this restaurant has been in Botany for years I have only been to it once previously about twenty plus years ago, even then the food was good.
I am pleased to say that today the food and service were absolutely fantastic, Carmen and her son did everything possible to make our lunch enjoyable, we had such variety in the food we ordered
I even ventured to try a coffee ( which I do not drink), I was made a very weak latte and to my surprise I could actually drink it and enjoy it.
Carmen even went so far as to put a candle on a piece of Tiramasu and sing happy birthday to my mother this extra touch was an outstanding piece of customer service and has definitely made sure that we will go back.
The garlic bread was delicious as were the garlic prawns and calamari. The chocolate mousse was so light that it tasted like heaven
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone for lunch and dinner.
The pricing guide when paying could be classified as expensive but when you consider the taste and quality of the food and the service it balances out (Donna - October, 2009)

Pinocchio's - Randwick

20th August 2009
I went to this restaurant for a friends 60th birthday party , there were only four of us for dinner but it was a thouroughly enjoyable evening.
We each had an entree, main and a serving of garlic bread along with one coffee and three glasses of Baileys.
The food was superb and the portion size was quite generous.
I will gladly go to this restaurant again, the total bill came to $180.00 which is exceptional for the quality we received, I felt this to be very reasonable. (Donna - August, 2009)

Dixon Restaurant
- 51 Dixon St, Haymarket NSWOverall 8.3 - Food 9, Ambience 7, Value 9, Service 8
I went to this little restaurant by accident on Sunday before seeing Guys and Dolls at the Capitol Theatre.
The restaurant had a lunch special for $12.80 per head for a three course meal.
This consisted of a spring roll and fried dim sim with sweet and sour sauce, chicken and sweet corn soup and large container of steamed rice ( I prefer fried rice) with the choice of one main each, but this took nothing away from the flavour of the dishes.
The choice was huge you could choice between Beef , Lamb , Chicken, Pork. mixed vegetables and one or two squid dishes.
There was three people in my party we also ordered Chinese tea and one soft drink - lunch for three people under $50.00 was great the out door atmosphere was wonderful even on such an overcast day and we had no rain so that added to the experience.
I would recommend this place to anyone. (Donna - June, 2009)
