It’s Christmas in July, Ladies and Gents

Celebrate Christmas the Northern Hemisphere way, but in July.

We may not enjoy a cold Chrissy like our friends up north, so we have Christmas in July instead! So break out the ugly sweaters, throw some tinsel around, grab the Christmas crackers and get festive with these traditional Christmas dishes.

Roast Potatoes

The best roast potatoes take ages to prep and cook, and taters gonna tate if they’re not roasted properly. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want crispy roast potatoes to serve with your Xmas chook. Come to think of it, it’s never not a good time for hot crunchy spuds.

Order roast potatoes from Mancini’s Original Woodfired Pizza in Belfield, NSW

Roast Chicken

You’ve had enough butter chicken and chicken soup this winter. It’s time for a traditional Xmas feast ‘cause no jolly celebration is complete without a steaming hot roast chicken to welcome chickmas. Take the stress out of cooking an entire bird (you know it’s gonna age you), and get a succulent, ready to eat chook delivered to your door.

Order a whole chicken from Sydney’s Charcoal Chicken in St Mary’s, NSW.

Prawn Pack

Prawns are an Aussie Xmas fave, we’ve all shared plenty of great times over fresh, peeled prawns, so there’s no reason they won’t be a prawnderful edition to your Christmas party. Keep it shrimple and order in a prawn pack with seafood sauce.

The best thing about Xmas in July is sinking your teeth into Christmas desserts minus the anxiety of wearing a bikini tomorrow. Forget cheesecake or tiramisu, Xmas is all about the pavlova. So white and fluffy, you’ll think Santa Claus served up a slice of the north pole and dusted it with icing sugar.

Order a pavlova from GJ’s Takeaway Cafe in Waterford West, QLD

Vegan Winter Fruits Crumble

The Christmas spirit is all about generosity, but it can be a little tricky when your vegan friend rocks up and all they can eat are those crispy spuds (but they’re not complaining). Look after them at dessert time with a vegan-friendly answer to the Christmas pudding: vegan winter fruits crumble. It’ll be hard stopping them crumbing back for more.

Order a vegan winter fruits crumble from Crumble Top in Newtown, NSW

Portuguese Custard Tarts

‘Tis the season to indulge in delicious treats. Portuguese custard tarts might not be super traditional, but they sure are a delicacy worthy of a Christmas in July. It’ll be hard not to be the Grinch that stole all the Christmas tarts with that perfectly flaky pastry and creamy custard filling.

Merry Christmas in July, ya’ll!
