Discover local Afternoon Tea gems
Typically consumed anywhere between 3:30pm - 5:30pm, Afternoon Tea is the life-saving snack that helps curb hunger pangs between lunch and dinner. Smart, huh?! Originally enjoyed by the privileged upper class in England, Afternoon Tea was traditionally a meal of savoury treats, cucumber sandwiches, as well as cakes and pastries, like buttermilk scones with jam (yum!), and cherry and marzipan cake. Basically, it was all very fancy. Nowadays, a formal Afternoon Tea (referred to as "High Tea" in Australia) is often served on a tiered stand, elegantly stacked with sweet treats and pastries, and obviously featuring...tea. The less posh version is essentially a light snack eaten during a short afternoon break.
