Discover local Austrian gems
The word most commonly associated with Austrian cuisine? Hearty. With a heavy focus on meat, poultry and vegetables, Austrian cuisine is guaranteed to leave you with a full and happy tum, that's for sure! The national dish -- and perhaps the meal Austria is most famous for producing -- is the Wiener Schnitzel (otherwise known as veal schnitzel). And while this dish has evolved as it's been adapted by different countries and cultures throughout the world, the authentic Wiener Schnitzel should actually be slightly crunchy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. The other hugely popular Austrian culinary offering is Knödel (sweet and sour dumplings), which, we gotta say, is a must try if you're hankering for some homey, hearty Austrian fare.
