From starters to desserts, Italian cuisine has had a massive impact on Australian palates. Due to mass migration over the last century, delicious flavours and ingredients ‒ including herbs and spices ‒ have become extremely common in both restaurants and home kitchens.

Lasagne
Lasagne is a culinary classic made by stacking multiple layers of pasta between alternating Bolognese-style, vegetable and cheesy sauce layers. The pasta is wide and square (which is what we’ll all become if we eat too much of it). Another great way of getting stuffed is Ravioli, a filling of meat, seafood, cheese or vegetables sealed between two layers of thin square pasta dough, served with broth or sauce. Cannelloni are large, cylindrical pasta tubes baked with fillings like beef or ricotta and spinach, then covered in tomato or Béchamel sauce. Betcha fancy some…we can help.
Penne Arrabbiata
Ragù is the most famous of Neapolitan meat sauces. Made from a soffritto (the holy trinity of onion, celery and carrot), meat and tomato sauce with guest appearances from red wine, basil and olive oil, it’s a speciality of Naples. Penne Arrabbiata is a very spicy (and Vegan-friendly) sauce made from garlic, tomatoes and dried red chilli peppers cooked in olive oil. Tagliatelle al Fungi is another favourite with fresh mushrooms like button, chestnut and oyster with garlic, wine and thyme. Ravioli Ricotta e Spinaci (ricotta cheese and spinach) is very popular nowadays, but ravioli can be traced all the way back to the Roman Empire. (You only need go back to your Menulog app.)
